Daily Inspiration: Meet Heather Subbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Subbert

Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I graduated with a recreation therapy and entered the nonprofit field. After a decade with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, I went to work in disability ministry with a church.

Working in this arena, I witnessed the need for opportunities for my friends living with disability to find and use their gifts while engaging in community experiences. With the support of an incredible team of people, we launched Kairos Adventures in January of 2023 in Sanford, Florida..

Hoping to serve 15 artists (those in our programs) we grew quickly – within a year we had three locations, an online program and over 100 individuals actively engaged in classes like dance, drama, martial arts, culinary arts, leadership development and community service. More exciting, we were building a community of people who encouraged and supported each others individual gifts, in an environment that fostered meaning connections, creative expression and self advocacy,

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every new venture has its challenges, and navigating the opening and operations a new nonprofit is no different. While we were a team who was incredibly confident in programming, we had to learn the business operation side of things: taxes, payroll, Human Resources, state registrations, insurance…did I mention taxes?

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what sets our organization apart is a deep belief in the talents of our artists. Our vision statement is that all people should be seen, known and celebrated as a part of God’s intentional design for humanity – that means all people of all ages and abilities. We are invested in seeing our artists succeed so that they can make the world a better, more beautiful place.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We are an arts and opportunities nonprofit and we love new experiences! We love to work with and learn from artists in our community – and we love to meet business owners of any kind to learn about their passions.

Volunteers from any background can help empower our artists by committing as little as an hour a week to help in a creative class (no experience necessary)

Getting very specific, we are also always looking for church partners who would like to host an event for our families, or invite our choir to lead worship at a weekend service.
