Today we’d like to introduce you to Howard Zinhagel.
Hi Howard, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has always been the biggest aspect of my life. I started performing in elementary school with recorders and worked my way up to the symphonic band in middle school. I started out with the flute and also learned berry saxophone my last year in middle school. I took a break in high school and in college with music but I was still learning and interested in music. Where my love for EDM came in was when I heard about Avicii and the Swedish house mafia for the first time. Fast forward a few years I attended Life in Color in Miami in 2014 and to this day, it’s been my favorite event that I’ve attended. Shortly after I bought my first controller and started djing! After learning how to beat match I started a free trial on Ableton and completely fell in love with producing. The producer/ DJ “Black V neck” helped me out tons when he invited me to his studio and I’ve only progressed after that one session. I’ve met numerous DJs and producers and they always told me not to stop and to always believe in myself so that’s what I’ve been doing. Covid put all the shows to a halt so I haven’t DJ since then but I’m working now to get booked for shows again and to release new music for my fans!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m not even close to where I want to be and there’s been a lot of rough patches and a lot of writer’s blocks. It’s pretty difficult trying to focus on music while you have a full-time job and invest a lot of time into it. My main goal is to produce/ DJ full time and I know I can do it and make it in this industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So electronic dance music is just the whole umbrella term for all the other genres. I am genre specific to my brand “Howieizi” so I DJ and produce Techno and a little bit of house music! I’ve released a few EPs with the Ukrainian-based record label “OxyTech records” with the dreamer EP being my best work so far. I’m proud of where I am but also not satisfied. When I started house and techno weren’t as mainstream as today. I’m glad it’s becoming more mainstream in the community so that inspires me to grind more and get my music out there.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I actually have. With me staying in my apartment most of the time, my creativity was sparking very well and I was way more focused than I am now! It has also taught me not to give up and keep going. I know I can do this and I will.
