Daily Inspiration: Meet Infinite Dobbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Infinite Dobbs.

Hi Infinite, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over 2 years and counting I drew everyday putting together a portfolio in hopes of getting a tattoo apprenticeship. After getting a countless number of nos I eventually came in to Timewarp tattoo looking for any entry into the tattoo industry wether it was working the front desk as a piercing apprentice or anything that would bring me anywhere near my overall goal of being a tattoo artist. Luckily after looking at my portfolio and hanging out at the shop for a few weeks Christian the owner took me in as his apprentice. Since then he’s taught me the ins and outs of both business and tattooing. Today as an apprentice I can hold my own against some artist that have been In the industry far longer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing about my journey has been smooth each day is a contant battle to overcome my own faults and adapting to the rapidly evolving state of the country. Initially it was improving my art then going through at least over 20 Nos over the span of 2 years after which the real struggle began. Having a traditional appreciateship was nothing like I expected but more rewarding then I imagined. At the same time as I was learning to make quick designs, pull clean lines and do smooth shading I would as help out with our shop event and smaller projects. Our events were huge. We’ve done cosplay contest, had fire dancers, and even hosted a kids art contest where the winner took home $1000. None of which was easy to execute but we got the job done and I still managed to learn how to pull clean lines, do smooth shading, and pack color in solid.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m less than a month away from my first year as an apprentice and I’ve manage to produce a quality in my tattoos it takes most people years to achieve. After drawing with pencil, pen, and color pencils my whole life tattooing seems natural to me. I can color shade and pull lines pretty well. As of now I specialize in an illustrative style of tattooing where the lines are clearly defined although I’m hoping to brake away from that and execute more realism which doesn’t always have defined edges.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the people and diversity in my city. There is a place for everyone here. I don’t like how expensive things are becoming and how much nature we’re losing with the constant development happening all the time.
