Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Parnasius
Hi Ivy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I opened my first clothing boutique 25 years ago, in a 200 square foot space in Grand Junction, CO. I worked a second job every morning baking cookies until it was time to open my shop for the day. It wasn’t easy, but there was no way I was going to give up on my dream!
Within 6 months I moved to a bigger space and over the next 17 years I just kept growing and eventually opened a second location in Montrose, CO.
In 2017 I sold both businesses and moved with my family to Northern Michigan. I was sad and lost without my shop and my customers that had become like family.
In 2018, I opened Ivy Boutique in Harbor Springs, MI and I met lots of new customers & friends. I also realized that long Michigan winters were not for me!
I knew where I wanted my next location to be- Mount Dora, FL. I had lived there with my parents while I attended Stetson University and I fell in love with that little town. I couldn’t wait to get back! So in December 2020, a few days before Christmas, I open my second location for Ivy Boutique. I am so happy to be back! The town has changed a little, but it still has that great hometown feel and community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. In the past 25 years many things have changed with technology and how people purchase their clothing. It is hard to compete with Amazon and the big online stores. However, there is nothing better than good face-to-face customer service and that is what we provide.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love what I do for many reasons. It’s fun to purchase and source fun and affordable clothing. I also really enjoy designing my stores and making them a welcoming place to shop. But, my absolute favorite part of my job is helping customers look and feel their best. When I help someone put together an outfit for a special occasion and they walk out with a smile on their face, that is the best feeling!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Spending weekends on my Dad’s houseboat fishing, swimming and just hanging out. I love spending time on the water!
