Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Martinez.
Hi Izzy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Getting my career off the ground took a bit of luck, guts, and determination—but what keeps me in demand is delivering results that move the needle. I’m Izzy D. Martinez, a brand strategist and visual designer who helps ambitious companies cut through market noise with strategic positioning and high-impact campaigns.
My breakthrough came while balancing college coursework with bartending shifts—I was so driven that I even pitched a social media content strategy to my bar manager, applying strategic marketing thinking wherever I could. When my professors pushed me to submit student work, I walked away with four AAF Addy Awards and got headhunted for a job offer that same night, all before graduation. That launched me into overseeing design for a national billboard company across Orlando and Jacksonville markets, where I became known for campaigns that didn’t just look good—they drove measurable business impact.
You’ve likely seen my work around Orlando and Central Florida: the wrecking ball dominating I-4, the giant gator that stopped traffic, the lemur that became a local landmark. Each project was an opportunity to prove that strategic visual storytelling doesn’t just capture eyeballs—it transforms brand presence and drives real ROI. I specialized in consulting with clients on Out-of-Home strategy, teaching them how bold creative concepts could revolutionize their market position.
Today, I’m the in-house graphic designer for an international cybersecurity platform, translating complex technical solutions into compelling visual narratives that resonate with global B2B audiences. My work now reaches international markets through digital advertising, event branding, and Out-of-Home campaigns. Different canvas, same principle: creating work that’s wanted—and works.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hell no. I can’t tell you how many times I stared at my bank account and thought about walking back into that bar, trading creative ambition for gambling tips while bartending. It was me versus myself, and that’s the fight every creative eventually faces. We become our own limiting factors, our harshest critics, our biggest roadblocks. That imposter syndrome can be a real P.I.T.A.
But here’s what I discovered: that self-doubt and internal critic aren’t enemies to defeat—they’re tools to leverage. There’s something powerful about being hungry, literally because you’re broke and mentally because you’re obsessed with improving your craft. That combination of desperation and ambition became the most valuable struggle I’ve ever endured.
The hunger kept me sharp. It made me take risks other people wouldn’t take, pitch ideas that felt too bold, and push creative boundaries because playing it safe meant staying stuck. Every moment of doubt became fuel to prove something—to myself first, then to everyone else who’d see my work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a brand strategist who creates impactful identities through typographic expertise, designing visual campaigns that demand attention and deliver measurable results. The work I create doesn’t just look good—it becomes part of the cultural landscape, helping brands become genuinely wanted by their audiences.
My most recognized work is probably the wrecking ball that dominated I-4 for over a year. The client was so excited during my pitch that before I even finished presenting, they asked for that concept plus an additional installation at another location. That’s the kind of response I’ve built my reputation on—creating designs that don’t just satisfy clients but genuinely excite them about what their brand can become.
I’ve made my name designing campaigns that leave a lasting impact on communities. The gator billboard campaign brought Wild Florida’s animals to life in mischievous ways—whether it’s the gator chomping over the billboard edge or the lemur poking his head through the frame. These aren’t typical “Buy Now!” sales pitches. They’re thoughtful, creative executions that respect the audience’s intelligence and create genuine engagement.
What sets me apart is creating work that becomes more than advertising—it becomes part of the conversation. When your campaign becomes a photo opportunity, a local landmark, or something people actively seek out and share, that’s when you know you’ve created advertising that people actually want to engage with.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Every mentor relationship I’ve had felt lucky, but there’s actually strategy behind it. People are drawn to passion and authenticity. When you talk genuinely about your dreams and show interest in others, something powerful happens. I read in a manga once that called this ability a true feat—turning anyone into an ally. That’s exactly what great networking feels like.
Just as important—have a good rival. Someone you can really go toe-to-toe with, whether in your field or not. I have two that come to mind, and they both push my drive harder than anything else. There’s something thrilling about closing the gap between you and them, or even taking the lead. What can I say, I’m competitive.
