Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Charles.
Hi Jasmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started baking as a child watching my mother so that is what got me into wanting to be involved in the pastry industry. As an adult, I was somewhat lost in trying to figure out this whole adult thing and what I would like to do for the rest of my life. My biggest allies at the time were my mom and then boyfriend (now husband). I used to love watching the Food Network show Challenge. I mean religiously, lol. Well that boyfriend went out of his way and got me information to go to Le Cordon Bleu to start their Baking and Pastry program. Cheesy to say but the rest is history. I have submerged myself in my craft and I have loved and hated each moment. My mother and now husband have motivated me throughout my journey as a pastry chef.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road because life happens. There are things that come along the way they make you question whether this is what you want to do in life or if you feel like it is the right choice. Things have never come easy for me growing up. I have had to always be the tough one and make sure everyone is doing well. In the middle of a major career transformation and possibly a life transformation, my mom passed away. That nearly broke me and made me not want to do a thing. It completely changed my mind frame. I felt like it could not be done without her. She was my business partner and my friend. I did stop for a while to get a hold on life. My mother left behind my nephews and niece so my husband and I took them in. That was a HUGE change in our lives, overall we have managed well and baking has been a staple in this house. We have for the most part we have overcome that struggle even adding two more!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Pastry Chef and own Sweet Face Treats. I specialize in cakes and desserts. I do weddings, birthday parties, Bachelor/Bachelorette parties, even divorce parties. Any dessert or cake you can think of or imagine, I am here to bring it to life. I am most proud of how far I have come. My cakes have come a long way and for those who got cakes from me in the beginning, WOW thanks I owe you. Those were not my best but everyone has to start somewhere. I do appreciate the love I still receive from some of those clients to this day. What sets me apart is my drive to make sure that it is everything you want and more as a client. I just want to add a little bit of sweetness to your event or party.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family matters the most. If it wasn’t for them, I would not be where I am and who I am. People have come in and out of my life and my family is always there. They are my reason and my why.
