Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenny Silviano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Silviano

Hi Jenny , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am native of Costa Rica and have been in US since 1985

My personal experience with childhood cancer began when my daughter, Katelyn, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) just before her fifth birthday. This life-altering event led me to become a dedicated advocate for families facing similar challenges.

Throughout Katelyn’s battle with leukemia,I was actively involved in her care, navigating the complexities of treatment and the emotional toll it took on our family. Katelyn achieved remission on June 21, 2014, and has continued to thrive, celebrating significant milestones, including her 10-year annual check-up with unremarkable labs.

Motivated by this journey, I founded Whipping Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization aimed at raising awareness and funds to assist local families affected by childhood cancer based in Orlando, Florida, I established the organization in 2014 and serve as its president.

My dedication has not only provided invaluable support to affected families but has also inspired my daughter, Katelyn, to give back. For over a decade, Katelyn, now a high school student and proud cancer survivor, has organized an annual toy drive, bringing joy and hope to children battling cancer.

Through my personal experience and ongoing advocacy, I continue to make a profound impact in the childhood cancer community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, It is never easy to hear the words your child has cancer, that was the biggest challenge to watch your own child suffer from a deadly disease and not be able to communicate with you what or how she is feeling.
The average financial impact for a family with a child with cancer is about $40,000.00 that is the reason a have made it a personal goal to help local families that are going through this.
After I founded WCC, the struggle has been able to raise funs and continue smoothly, the money a raise today gets spent tomorrow, these families are in need of food and gas tp get to and from the hospital.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a proud Costa Rican (“Orgullosamente Tica”) and mother,I draw inspiration from my own experiences to lead initiatives that provide financial assistance and raise awareness about childhood cancer.

My commitment to supporting families and advocating for children battling cancer has made a significant impact in Central Florida and beyond.
