Daily Inspiration: Meet Jonte Vaughn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonte Vaughn.

Jonte, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was in Beauty school, I was told I was super funny. One of my classmates told me that I should be a standup comedian. She hooked me up with one of her friends who does standup comedy and he took me to my first open mic I thought to myself it sounded super easy but I wanted to finish school first . Two years later I was in a shop with some other people doing nails and facials and two or three months later the shop got burnt down to the ground and I lost everything. I became a little depressed a single mother with three children I lost everything I had to make ends meet, but I remembered the guy my friend introduced me to and I just went to the next thing. I believe in signs so I wasn’t going back to do nails and I am what I consider a jack of all trades. I’m not scared to try new things. So here we are four years later I am still doing comedy and I love it .

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road the whole time financially and emotionally. It takes a lot to chase your dreams like I just had a situation in April where I was temporarily homeless, but it never stopped the grind and I was still able to be a mother to my kids still Able to keep my passion if anything it taught me I am really built for this and I can overcome anything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a stand-up Comedian born and raised in Orlando, Florida. If we are speaking comedy wise maybe roasting off the top of my dome honestly, I don’t know what I am known for, but I hope one day I am known for being a great comedian.
I think I am more proud of my work ethic, being that I specialize in doing locs also. I have shown myself that I don’t give up easy and there’s always room for improvement but my work ethic speaks for itself. I think my style is different clothing wise, comedy wise, life wise completely separates me from a lot of comedians.
