Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hiltz.
Hi Jordan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Some people have a specific passion that’s so deep and meaningful to them that it can take away any stress, anxiety, hardships, and sadness away from them – and that is what the Walt Disney Company brings to me. I was about three the first time I had gone to Disney World, and though I don’t remember it, my mom used to tell me that she never saw a child in so much light and love. After that, we went every year twice a year until I was eight. Then, it became we went every other month until I was 18. We had the annual passes, the decorations in our house, the Disney t-shirts, the Disney ears and yet it just wasn’t enough for me. I decided one day that Disney’s message and meaning to kids and adults is something I not only love but want to be a part of. I want to inspire people and kids like me who feel that nostalgia and pure joy when seeing the 190ft castle on the end of Main Street and love the unbelievable amount of pain your feet have because they know that it means they are at Disney. I needed more. So I decided that I wanted to move from Tallahassee, FL to Orlando. I would further my schooling by going to college here and live my dream of having Disney in my backyard.
When the pandemic started, I, like so many, became so distraught. It felt like every news article was sad, no one could leave and everyone was worried. I couldn’t go to Disney because it was closed, and so I relied on the movies, my Disney t-shirt and ears, my Disney puzzles that I still haven’t finished, and that Disney love. I decided then to share my love from home with my Instagram account (@disneyywithjo). There, I get to share my love, passion and hope for a better tomorrow with others like me who seek that magic everyday. I do it because I love it. I do it because I am hopeful. And I do it because I am a Disney kid a heart.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Social Media platforms are some of the most underrated job forms. Of course, from an outsiders perspective I even used to think it was easy. Just post a cute picture and put a thousand hashtags and you’ll be good, right? Well, it’s a little more complicated. The Instagram Algorithm is one of the most difficult obstacles a creator has. It makes it so that less and less people see a creators posts and stories, making it hard for engagement. One day I could have 1,000 likes on a post, and the next day I could have 200. I never truly cared about likes and followers, as my Instagram is for me and sharing my joy, but as a creator you want your account to grow, which is why the algorithm is always a struggle. Another challenge is knowing that not everyone will like the content I put out. I, like so many creators through social media get hate. It’s a sad realization, but true. Some people will talk about how I’m “weird” for liking Disney so much, others will comment on my outfit not being perfect, and sometimes I just get people who complain about there being a wrinkle in my skirt. Either way, social media has taught me that you can never please anyone but that’s it is okay! Again, I have this account for me to share my love, and even if five people feel like I’m bringing them joy, that makes my whole day matter.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My real job is that I work at the Walt Disney World Resort. I just got hired and I cannot wait to get started! As for my other “work”, I am a Disney style, fashion and content creator through the social media platform Instagram. My username is “disneyywithjo” and I have had this account for a little over a year now. I’m known for my cute and trendy outfits with a little Disney touch and for bringing the magic into other people’s lives around the globe. As an Orlando local, I go to the parks almost everyday and share the content through my account. I give out tons of Disney hacks, tips, style guides, and pictures that help my followers have the best trip when they visit! I’m so proud of my account and hope more and more people find the magic through it. I feel like my account is very genuine about loving Disney, and it’s never been about the follower numbers or number of likes. I made this account as a fun way to meet people around the globe who loves Disney as much as I do, and I think it can set me apart from people who just do it for the wrong reasons!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
There are so many other Disney accounts that I love as well and so many content creators who want to give the same message. As for podcasts and blogs, I don’t have anyone in mind, but I can say that there are so many Youtube channel accounts that are Disney vlog, style and content-based that help me as a whole! Non-Disney wise, I love any and all self-help books/podcast that can help me with stress. I find that listening to what they have to say about stress relief makes me less worried throughout the day which makes for a more magical one!
