Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Rioux.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started all this about a year ago (2021). Rey was my first cosplay, and I really liked it. My dad told me about a Comic-Con we could go to so I brought Rey. I had so much fun, then I wanted to be Nezuko from Demon Slayer (my favorite anime), and I went to the convention dressed as Nezuko. I loved talking to everyone and taking pictures with everyone! It is my favorite thing to do. Then I got several other cosplays and started my Instagram. My dad introduced me to all the Anime (which he has loved since he was a kid) and the cosplaying, and we get to go to everything and spend tons of time together.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, I am only 9, so my dad has to handle all the hard stuff! But getting the costumes together, finding things that fit me, and figuring out how to do the wigs and the makeup have been challenges. There is a lot to it, like planning and packing to go to the conventions. Video-Ing and taking pictures for social media has been a lot of work too.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work: dressing up as anime characters. My specialty is being one of few kids who get to attend the comic cons in cosplay! I am very social and outgoing and love talking to everyone and taking pictures with everyone! I don’t let being afraid stop me from doing this because I really love it!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The more comic cons I go to, the more I meet people who are willing to share tips and knowledge with me. Talking non-stop has worked so far! At the comic cons, there are people there in cosplay groups that have panels, and they interview people to join them, and everyone is friendly and helpful. Making friends is very important. So is just sharing your social media info with friends. People can create their own groups with the friends they make and network with others.
