Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Kipp.
Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So, this journey all started at 12 years old when I discovered how photography engulfed two of my greatest passions; people & history, and that was the spark to this now ever-burning fire.
I’ve always had a fond interest and fascination in the power of how history can sculpt the mindset of a child and bridge the how’s and why’s about current society; how it functions the way it does and why.
The extrovert in me has increased this deep love I feel for people and for the unique backgrounds from which they come. I am inspired by the stories told through the experiences of the individuals I meet. It has founded such a deep endeavor within me to try to document these experiences and stories to preserve them.
The conversations on set, the laughs at dinner, even the vibes of a song are key ingredients to the way I shape every story whether if it’s a portrait, a campaign, or a project I’m working on.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Loads of trials and let-downs. My faith in the Lord, honestly, kept/keeps me moving forward. I know that if one door closes, another one will open.
One of the biggest trials for me was when I was let go of a job I had at an agency and left to figure out what to do next. One thing I strongly advise anyone is to never be afraid of doing something that is less ideal than what you actually want to do in order to keep food on the table or just to make sure you’re covered.
What I chose to do was to start sending out applications and trying to get interviews. I got a job at BootBarn (my family roots are in ranching), then I decided to get my Health & Life Insurance license. When money wasn’t flowing in, I decided to send out more applications which one of them landed me with a company to shoot dance and cheer competitions.
Being steadfast will bring blessings. The Lord blessed me to land a job with McDonald’s to shoot for them.
Never give up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an advertising and lifestyle photographer based in St. Cloud, FL
I specialize in: Lifestyle Portraiture, Interior/Hospitality, and Product Photography
I create storytelling imagery for clients whose desire is for their brand or life to be documented in a way that will give them the driving force they need to get or to continue to get their story out there above the noisy crowds of trendy-but-not-real.
I am most proud of my recent accomplishment of working with McDonald’s and getting to photograph Jennifer Hudson after her concert.
The way I think, my style, and my view of life sets me apart the most.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love listening to David Benoit or The Midnight while editing. Occasionally, I’ll blast the soundtrack from ‘Dream Along with Mickey’ (an old stage show from WDW).
As for podcasts, I’m not really into them. I’d rather watch the YouTube version if they’re available. I’m a visual type person, so having a visual resonates with me better than just audio when it comes to a podcast.
