Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Marcano
Hi Julie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started when I was very young, as many singers do, in church. I grew up going to church every Sunday with my grandma, and she had me involved in everything from singing with the band to dancing on stage. This part of my life really got me used to performing in front of a crowd. From there on, I was a part of any musical group I could. Through middle school, I was a part of the school’s rock band and signed up for every musical they put on. Through high school, I was president of our Show Choir and played a lead role in every musical for every season, from Ursula in The Little Mermaid to playing Carmen in Fame. I would even perform every year for my community’s Pride festival. I was in love with music and performing, and I knew that I didn’t want to do anything else for the rest of my life. I then went to Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, for Music Production and just graduated with my bachelor’s in December of 2024. Now I’m the lead singer in a cover band by the name Stella-Fi, and I’ve just been rockin’ the days by.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, not long after I graduated high school, my mom passed away in a car accident. She was my best friend and biggest supporter. My parents were divorced, and I lived with her exclusively, so my life did a huge 180 right after. Before I graduated high school, I decided I was going to take a year off before going to college, so for the year I was still in my hometown before moving to Orlando, I ended up living with my best friend at the time. It was very rough, and we ended up not staying friends after I moved out. It was a very traumatic experience overall, and there were many times when I just wanted to unenroll from Full Sail and suffer in isolation, but then I would remember all the times my mom and I would talk about how amazing the university was and I would remember all the times she would drag her friends out to see me perform at school- all the flowers they gave me, and the opportunities I was given from them as well- I knew I had to be strong so that I wouldn’t let her down. Now, almost everything I do is for her. Because I know that she would be so insanely proud of where I am today, and she would think I’m the coolest person in the world if she saw me now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer! That’s pretty much all there is to it. I’ve been a part of many projects, from just being a recorded voice, a background singer for another artist, or singing for a band/show. Most people want me for my strong powerhouse vocals, but even my softer singing has a personality to it that is difficult to find.
How do you define success?
I define success as happiness. Even the richest and most developed people in their careers end up unhappy- and to me- that’s not success. Now, finding a career that you want to retire with and living your life the way you want it, whether that be settling down with a family or traveling, that’s being successful. I also believe that you can go back and forth between being successful and not being successful throughout a lifetime. Goals and aspirations can change constantly for a person. If you are unhappy with where you are in life, no matter how much money you’ve made or the businesses you’ve created, have you really been successful with yourself and your life? I really believe it’s a mindset rather than a finish line that you HAVE to make it to and stay at.
