Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaeli Tall.
Hi Kaeli, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Before I had children, I was very outgoing. But once they came along, I found myself becoming much more introverted — a homebody. Over time, I began to feel like I wasn’t personally progressing outside the home.
I have always loved cursive writing and handwriting, and one day while scrolling through Instagram (as we all do), I stumbled across a calligrapher advertising an in-person calligraphy workshop nearby. I was so excited — it felt like the perfect creative outlet I had been craving. But then, COVID hit. The workshop moved online, and with more time at home (and no more soccer practices or games), I was able to fully dive into learning.
At first, it was purely an outlet — a way to unplug from everyday life. Every day, I practiced, learned, and grew, and I fell in love with how endless the possibilities in calligraphy truly are.
Eventually, I wanted to find a way to contribute financially to my family. I didn’t know exactly how to take the next step beyond small projects for friends and family, so I enrolled in several courses: business training for calligraphers and specialized workshops teaching techniques like engraving and hot foiling. That’s when everything clicked. I realized calligraphy wasn’t just pen and paper — it could be so much more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been relatively smooth, but very much a “learn-as-I-go” experience. With each new project, I’ve picked up new skills, learned from my mistakes, and found ways to improve for next time.
One of my biggest challenges has been navigating the technical side of things — technology has never been my strong suit. Thankfully, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with others whose strengths lie in that area, allowing me to focus on what I love most.
On a more personal note, one of my ongoing struggles is being overly critical of myself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing my work to the incredible talent that’s out there. I’ve had to remind myself that there will always be someone “better,” but that doesn’t diminish my value or progress. There is always room to grow, to learn, and to evolve — and that mindset keeps me moving forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Onsite events are incredibly rewarding for me. There’s nothing quite like the instant gratification of seeing someone experience their finished personalization in real time.
While in-studio projects are fulfilling and positive client reviews are always appreciated, there is something uniquely special about witnessing someone’s excitement firsthand. Seeing their eyes light up when they see the final result reminds me why I do what I do. It reassures me that I’m on the right path — and motivates me to continue growing and refining my craft.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In the event space, it often feels like being an extrovert is a must. Over the years, I’ve grown more introverted, which is why it might come as a surprise that onsite events are actually my favorite part of what I do.
These events push me outside of my comfort zone — in the best way. There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing someone’s face light up when they receive their personalized item. That moment of joy, that instant connection, is what makes it all worth it.
Walking out of an event, I always feel an incredible high. No matter how big or busy the event may be, it’s always fun, and I walk away proud of myself for showing up, creating something special, and stepping into a space that challenges and fulfills me at the same time.
