Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Torres.
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After leaving my full-time career to stay home with my second son, I suddenly felt very alone and, like many moms, didn’t recognize my body anymore. I found a mommy and me fitness group that not only helped me get back in shape but helped me realize my passion for helping others feel confident in their own skin. This passion is what drove me to get my certifications in personal training and nutrition coaching. Once my kids were both in school and I had outgrown the days of mommy and me fitness, I decided to switch my business model to more one-on-one training, both in-person & virtually. I love seeing other women thrive and reach their goals, no matter how big or small! Knowing I get to meet some pretty incredible women and be a part of their journey really is an honor and what fuels me to stay on this path.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! I HATE putting myself out there, let alone as a business. Nobody wants to fail, but definitely not publicly! When Covid hit, we had to find other ways to reach our clients and thankfully, most of them pivoted with us. Aside from that, there are always limiting self-beliefs that creep in, but I try to look at the positives that have happened.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a mom of two very rambunctious boys, I know the struggles of trying to make your health a priority while catering to your family’s needs. I also understand the physical struggles of regaining strength after carrying two babies. My personal experience, passion for helping others, and desire to keep learning is why I focus on women and why I have obtained certifications in the following: American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer specializing in perinatal fitness, Health Coach, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, SCW Mat Pilates and currently studying for my Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification. My approach is one that looks at healthy & sustainable changes, not quick fixes. I never want a client to feel guilty for indulging every once in a while because the reality is that nobody is perfect nor eats perfectly. My focus is helping clients learn how to build their toolbox so they can strengthen their body inside and out & feel confident once on their own. I also recognize there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Everybody’s body responds to different forms of exercise and nutrition, so I make sure to listen to my client’s needs and help guide them to what is aligned with their goals.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I am the oldest of seven, with the youngest being 17 years younger than me, so I guess I can attribute my “take charge, let’s get to business while still being goofy and having fun” attitude to that, lol. Because there were five boys and my dad was very into being active and outdoors, I grew up in a very active family. Before we moved to Tennessee, we lived in New Smyrna Beach and my brother and I was always either out in the woods or at the beach. When we moved to Tennessee, I played softball and cheered for my high school for a couple of years. Even though I hated moving to “the country,” that small-town living is something I do miss as I raise my own family, but I know the beach has my heart.
