Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Weaver.
Hi Kelly, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since I was six years old, I’ve always wanted to be in the film industry. I would tell my mom all the time that’s gonna be me on the TV one day. In high school I would drama and talented shows. When was a senior in high school I met my best friend Bryon Miller while working at General Cinema Altamonte 8 and we hit it off fast because our love for movies. He was making his first film and I told him I would help out any way I could and wanted to learn because of my lack of film knowledge and he had so much of it. So, I helped out with the casting process and one of the actors who got cast had to drop out. So, I went out for the role and I couldn’t believe that I got it. Bryon moved three years later and the only roles I was getting were either the funny best friend or the token black guy lol. But I knew I could be so much more than that. I loved writing stories so I learned how to script write then started my own production company so I could play the roles I wanted to play and help people who were just starting out like my best friend Bryon helped me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not an easy road at all. I learned some things from Byron and various sets. I would PA and hang out with the directors, cameramen, and crew to learn more and more. My first attempt at making a film was a disaster. I almost gave up and went back to getting the roles I didn’t like getting. But I had a talk with my mom and my best friend and started over. This time slowly and gained some momentum and found my stride.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a writer, actor, director, and producer. My company specializes in many genres because I love all types of genres but I guess I’m best known for horror films because that’s my favorite genre lol. But for the most part because I learned from my favorite author Stephan King, I love storytelling. Character development and what not. The horror or thrills is just icing on the cake. I love the drama and emotion of the characters so you feel for them or hate them when the terror begins. So, I’d say my stories sets me apart of some others.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Entertaining people. Sitting in the back of a theater and listening to their reactions. There’s no other feeling like it. Watching them laugh or cry or get angry or be happy at the scenes you wrote out is amazing. I love it.
