Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Bohlender & Amy Collier.
Hi Kendra & Amy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started this company last year in 2020. It was a devastating year for so many and Amy, too, suffered a huge loss as her husband passed away due to an unexpected accident. She was raising her two small girls alone and processing grief during the pandemic which was (and still is) quite a challenge. Amy and I began getting together and making jewelry as a creative outlet. It was actually quite therapeutic and something that we fell in love with. As we started wearing our pieces out and about, people began commenting and asking where they could buy them. Well, that led us to taking the leap and officially launching our small company.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We’ve learned so much over the past year. We each have two small children and are pretty much always working with kids at our feet or sitting on our laps. Work gets done in the early hours of the morning, late in the evening after our kids are asleep, or here and there throughout the day when we have five minutes to spare. We’re working so hard while chasing this dream, so sometimes balls are going to drop. That is just part of it. It happens and we’re constantly reminding each other that we’re human and to give ourselves some grace.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in handmade jewelry and aim to make beautiful quality products that are affordable for everyone. It’s been important to us from the start and we’re very proud that we’ve been able to remain true to that. Custom orders are a huge part of our business! It could be a loved one’s initials, a special saying, or even an inside joke, but it’s truly one of our most favorite things and a huge compliment to be trusted in making something so meaningful for others to wear and enjoy. The product becomes more than just a bracelet and it’s been amazing to see how it makes others feel. It truly warms our hearts to see our pieces bring meaning and magic to others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We’ve both had so much personal heartache behind the scenes of our company. And with that, we have had to take moments of pause which is why working with a partner (who also happens to be your best friend) can be such a beautiful thing. We’ve been able to pick up the pieces and hold each other up when needed. We do it all ourselves. Together, we source the supplies, create the designs, produce the pieces, package and ship the orders, photograph our items, and correspond on social media. It’s just the two of us…and well, four children. Behind our brand, we are just your average moms striving to be the best and give our kids a life full of magic and beauty.
