Jalisa Shead

Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Kimberly Shead, a multifaceted artist encompassing roles as a singer/rapper, songwriter, model, actress, entrepreneur, and photographer. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, I relocated to Kissimmee, Florida, post-high school with a vision to chase my artistic dreams. Initially, my aspirations to grace the stage or excel in photography seemed like distant dreams due to my introverted nature. However, over time, I’ve debunked my own misconceptions, transforming those dreams into tangible achievements and setting even loftier goals. My journey has been marked by numerous milestones and moments of pride. Notably, music videos featuring my brother and me have amassed over half a million views. My musical voyage has also led me to perform in Atlanta alongside cast members of The Rap Game on several occasions, share the stage with Kodak Black’s brother John Wick, film a music video in Miami, perform at festivals with my band, attend a DJ Khaled event, and encounter inspirational figures such as all members of Fifth Harmony, Cardi B, P. Diddy and his family, Supa Peach, Miss Mulatto a.k.a. Big Latto, John Wick, Kodak Black, Ti, among others. In the realm of photography, I take pride in my work for Orlando Fashion Week, capturing the essence of fashion shows and auditions, photographing 15 individuals in a mere two days. A defining moment was securing a $300 photoshoot with a prominent Chicago talent agency for their artist, signifying my inaugural paid assignment and their confidence in my raw potential. Additionally, I’ve had the honor of collaborating with esteemed entities such as Disney, Universal, Denny’s, Olive Garden, and engaging in African cultural events in Orlando, contributing to Orlando Fashion Week, and beyond. My modeling career has seen me strut down numerous runways and partake in a variety of production sets.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I always appreciate viewing things from a unique angle. A smooth path often means a lack of experience. My life has been filled with many challenges. Currently, I feel engulfed in a season of relentless struggles, with one issue following another. I find myself questioning whether it’s all worth it or if it ever will be. As a revamp artist, I’ve faced challenges such as establishing my musical identity, discerning whom to trust, and overcoming the anxiety built up over years from being told I’m not good enough. The question was about the struggles I’ve encountered. I’m not yet where I aspire to be in my career, but I’m open to sharing this new phase and its challenges with you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hello, I’m Kimberly Shead, a versatile talent with a passion for the arts. I’m not only a singer/songwriter but also a model, actress, photographer, marketer, and entrepreneur. My musical skills extend to playing five instruments: electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, drums, and piano. As a self-taught Pop/Rock Alternative artist, I take pride in my journey of learning. Growing up, I didn’t have formal music classes; instead, I was inspired by talented young singers on YouTube. Despite being told I wasn’t good enough, I never gave up. I embraced ‘YouTube Academy,’ where I taught myself everything I know, and I continue to learn and grow there to this day.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The arts industry is in a state of constant evolution, and the next 5-10 years are poised to bring about substantial changes, thanks to a wealth of talented individuals. Those with creative minds spearhead innovation and set the stage for emerging trends. The internet has already brought significant shifts to the industry. What I find most beautiful and anticipate eagerly is the emergence of authenticity among individuals and the world’s growing unconditional love for those who are different. Consequently, we can expect trends to progress at a rapid pace.
