Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Kelly.
Lee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has always been around me since I was a little boy. My grandparents, my mom my dad my uncles they always had music around me so I fell in love with it quickly. I developed rap skills early kinda stumbled across it. I remember my uncles use to come and get me to rap against their friends and I’ll kill them every time little all me beating these grown men. And not cause I was little, no I was nice for real with freestyling at such an early age, I would impress a lot of people. They would say Lil Lee rap for me and my boy ant boss would give me a beat haha good all days. I later challenged myself to start writing I hated it at first cause I was so good at freestyling. But the more I wrote the more I gained a love for it. I then started making songs that I wanted to record but nobody honestly wanted to give me a chance I later learned God was telling me to do it on my own and I did. And here we are today, making the best music that I can possibly make and getting better at it by the day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I would have to say acceptance that has been the biggest struggle along the way and still is. I remember when I dropped leesanity my first tape and someone I looked up to that was heavily connected at that time was like you need to tone it down. Leesanity was super hip hop I was spitting them bars y’all go download that on datpiff see for yourself. But that’s what he told me and I understood cause I’m from Florida at a time where trap was transitioning and the south really wasn’t trying to hear lyrical rap.
There was also a tough way for me at that time to get the music distributed out to different states and cities for those ears to listen, so it was tough in the beginning. And it made me change my sound in a way that was acceptable to the listener but not to me I wasn’t feeling it so I had to deal with acceptance from myself that shit was deep (sorry I don’t know if I can cuss) but it was deep and now I shook it back and can now make the music I want to make how I want to make it cause I have ears outside of the inner cities ears that give me their acceptance and push me to that level I’m trying to reach.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I feel like I’m an entertainer, a man of many gifts God has blessed me tremendously I feel like I’m all aspects of entertainment Comedy, Music, Acting I’m able to do it all. Music is my passion though it’s my first love and being able to record, perform and write my songs has been one of the many joys of my life. To have people come up to me asking for more music, more videos more performances it overwhelms me and shows me that I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing. What sets me apart from others is my dedication my devotion to this the way I record my music the way I write I’m in a league of my own and I’m not bragging it’s just facts. I been doing this 10+ years and I done seen a lot of them come in have they little viral moment, then ghost out and I’m still here, still elevating still getting better still gaining listeners I’m right here and that what sets me apart is the fact that NOBODY wants this more than me and the proof is in the results FEEEEL MEEEEEE!!!!!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Just reach out I’m easy to get in touch with. If you want to reach me you will. I will be down to work with everybody but they don’t reach out they see me say they will and never do. *shrugs* I guess that’s how it goes but I have collaborated with some dope artists already that I’m going to link up with again shout out to kilo Koke Rapper Ydd and my girl Sovia and Tay Empiire just to name a few. I’ll say this before we move on there is a strong city to city beef and that stops a lot of artist from really linking up and making music cause they feel they have a point to prove. But what’s the point when people dying everyday we have a link and show the unity for real the big dogs the big steppers of the city we gotta link up and I plan to change that it’s going to be tough but nothing is impossible in order for the world to see us they gotta see us so I’m going to make them see us and that’s facts.
