
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Lamely.
Hi Lindsay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My vision for the Dessert Shop was born from childhood memories of baking Cookies with my Mother. Although, the baking step usually was left out, as I was notorious for sneaking spoonful’s of Cookie Dough while my mother wasn’t watching. My mother used to call me her little “DoughGirl.” I’ve always had a sweet tooth, and in particular, Cookie Dough is my weakness.
I am a mother of two small children with a Masters in Accounting. I have spent my last 15 or so years in a corporate setting, then working from home once I had children, handling bookkeeping and preparing tax returns. During the Pandemic, with lots more time at home with my children, I found myself teaching them to bake with me, mostly cookies of course! In the process, I watched my children dipping their fingers in the Dough and sneaking tastes here and there. It brought me back to my own childhood memories, and I thought, why are we even baking the Dough if it’s even more Delicious just as Dough? I then worked on formulating a recipe that made the Raw Cookie Dough safe to eat and started sharing with family and friends. I played with different flavors and found it to be such a fun and creative outlet, so very different from my accounting background.
I started selling the cookie dough on a small scale from my home and doing small caterings for parties and showers. I then stumbled upon a tiny store-front in my town and thought it would be the perfect place to bring my Cookie Dough Dreams to life. I wanted to not only serve plain Cookie Dough but a variety of options and Combo’s. My shop Menu now includes Single Scoops of Dough in Cups and Cones, Cookie Dough Nachos (Dough served on a plate of Waffle Cone Chips for Dipping), Dough Flights, Cookie Dough and Ice Cream Combos, and Mini Scoops Platters serviced in Cupcake Trays. This Summer we will introduce Milkshakes into the Shop, and we are constantly evolving and adding new fun Dessert Creations to reach a wider audience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not Always… with a Brick and Mortar always come challenges. I’ve had equipment failure causing spoiled ingredients. Staffing challenges, mostly for myself, as I struggle to raise two young children and be as present as possible at the shop. I’ve always made mistakes trying to do TOO MUCH. I’m learning less is more; just make what you do Really Great, and you don’t need so many options.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Having a Master’s in Accounting and the financial and business knowledge related to bookkeeping and taxes, I believe, has allowed me to have a fairly smooth start to my new business venture. I know most small businesses struggle the first few years; I’ve even read that almost 80% go out of business the first year, however I believe my true love for what I’m doing is what sets me apart from most. This Dessert Shop was started with a Passion. It allowed to explore a creative side of myself that wasn’t found in the Corporate World. I take so much pride in the appearance and upkeep of my Shop, as well as the Ingredients, Menu Items, and Products that are served there. I am so present on a daily basis with every aspect of the business and I believe that shows in the way I operate it and interaction with my customers.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Passion! When you do something you love, it doesn’t feel like work, they say. I had never experienced this in my previous job – it felt like, well, a job. This endeavor, however, I am truly passionate about and I enjoy. I want to be a part of every step, I get excited creating new flavors, recipes, and menu items.
