Daily Inspiration: Meet Mabell Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mabell Rodriguez

Mabell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About Me

I am a content creator and social media influencer. My career began in 2017 when, during my pregnancy, I stayed home and started watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, as well as taking courses and practicing constantly. My husband was my biggest support, gifting me makeup and creating the perfect space for my photos. As I gained confidence, I started sharing my makeup looks on Facebook, and soon my first followers encouraged me to open a public page.

Professional Career

In February 2019, I began posting makeup looks on Instagram, where I now have more than 1 million followers. Initially, my local followers started requesting my makeup services for special events, but later I decided to fully dedicate myself to creating social media content.

One of the keys to my success has been staying authentic. Brands usually contact me after seeing their products featured in one of my viral videos or when they want to replicate the success of a trend. I always prefer collaborating with brands I personally use and trust. I avoid using technical terms or making medical claims, preferring to speak from my personal experience.

Success on TikTok and Other Platforms

In January 2021, I decided to open a public TikTok profile, where I now have over 3 million followers. My first viral video was a hair hack, which led me to explore more beauty and makeup content. My YouTube channel has also grown, now with over 1 million subscribers, and I’ve learned how to leverage short video formats to better capture my audience’s attention.

Facebook has also been a key platform, especially since the launch of Facebook Reels. Today, I have over 1.7 million followers there, which has allowed me to expand my reach and connect with more people.

Supporting Small Businesses and the Local Community

I’ve always aimed to support small local businesses, researching each one as any customer would before promoting them. I also participate in local creator meetups, where I share tips and experiences with other creators and entrepreneurs. I enjoy helping others navigate the world of social media and grow their careers.

Balancing Work and Family

I’ve managed to build my career while taking care of my two daughters, handling household chores, and recording videos in the midst of their playtime. During the pandemic, it was difficult to continue offering services, but it was also the time when my social media presence grew the most.

Thank God, my husband has always been by my side, being my pillar and motivating me to keep going through every challenge. Now that he works from home, we are a stronger team, and we love caring for our daughters, our home, and spending more time together.

We are believers and always put God first in every step we take. Family is our priority, and our daughters are our biggest motivation.

Looking to the Future

Although I enjoy creating beauty and makeup content, I don’t see myself launching my own brand unless it’s in collaboration with a trusted partner. My true passion is teaching and sharing my love for makeup with everyone who follows me on social media. I hope to help future creators adapt to the ever-changing digital world.

I’ve learned that I can’t please everyone, but my community will naturally form around those who genuinely connect with my content. That’s what I want to share with aspiring creators: I want to see more women happy, dedicating themselves to what they love, spending more time with their families, all while generating income from home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe I’m extremely blessed, and the challenges I’ve faced weren’t the ones I expected. It’s been more about adapting to the learning curve and adjusting to the new normal; like learning how to price my work, set boundaries, and outline expectations. There was a time when I cared too much about haters and internet trolls, but that’s all in the past now. I’m completely focused on moving forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love doing makeup and skincare reviews, always on the lookout for the most anticipated products and the real gems in the market. I also make it a priority to focus on what my audience truly wants by regularly checking tagged notifications to see what they’re interested in. People often ask how I stay creative and consistently find content ideas to share, and it all comes down to one thing: dedication.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’ve noticed a lot of e-commerce being heavily featured on social media lately. The Amazon app, for example, has its own social media platform with thousands of creators exclusively doing shoppable content, but it’s not as popular. While I believe audiences are influenced to purchase items based on genuine creator recommendations, this isn’t usually the primary reason people open their favorite social media apps. There’s a clear distinction between product reviews, authentic recommendations, and creators solely focused on shoppable content. I can see some platforms becoming less relevant or even fading out in the next 5-10 years if they don’t adapt or allow users more control over what appears in their feeds.
