Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Anderson.
Hi Madeline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been performing ever since I was about seven years old. I would do theatre shows in my hometown and school shows all the way through elementary, middle, and high school. In fifth grade, I auditioned for the Florida All State Choir and got in. I remember feeling like everything had fallen into place. That’s the moment I fell in love with music. In 2019, I was accepted into the music program at the University of Central Florida. I began working hard on my studies, participating in theatre and music all across Orlando, and posting music videos on my YouTube channel. I began writing original songs and posted my first full song to SoundCloud called “Wasted on You” earlier this year. Today, my YouTube channel has amassed over 120,000 views and I am so excited to see where it will grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has definitely been an uphill battle at all points in the journey! In our world today, and especially in the performing industry, there is quite a lot of worth placed on artists’ physical appearance and well as their talent. Growing up, my physical appearance was regularly put down as a reason that I wouldn’t find success in the industry. I was told that I “would never be cast as the ingénue” and that I “didn’t look good next to the male lead”. Comments like these never extinguished my love for the arts, but they did chip away at my confidence over the years. Right before the Pandemic started, I decided that I was going to work on my physical health and appearance as a way to build confidence in myself. As of today, I lost 120 pounds and grew my confidence in myself as a human and as an artist. Unfortunately, this didn’t erase the negativity that I faced. Even after I attained what I had been told I needed, the negative voices were always able to find something to pick at.
Through these experiences, I realized that those negative voices came from people projecting their own insecurities onto something they saw. Those people suffered the same way I did and I wish I could take that hurt away from them. I took nearly twenty one years to accept that others’ opinions of me cannot rule over my life and I still have growth to do. My dream is to create a platform where every size, height, skin color, identity, etc. is welcomed and uplifted. I exist to create art that touches people. If I can just make one person smile with my art, then every single roadblock will have been worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a developing singer, actress, and songwriter. I have years of experience that spans from stage performances to film and live-stream to voice acting and audio recording as well as creative writing and design. I specialize primarily in singing and acting. Some of my work that has gotten more recognition are my acapella covers posted to my YouTube channel. The product of my work that I am most proud of is actually the touching comments left under these videos. Many people message me stating how my music has touched them. Comments like these mean the world to me. What I feel really sets me apart from others is that I strive to connect with my base as much as possible. I really want people who support me to know just how much I appreciate them. I try to respond to every kind of comment or message I get just so people know how much they mean to me. I want to make people feel heard and loved. I genuinely feel like even just a kind response to a comment they left can make someone’s day.
How do you think about happiness?
Music makes me happy. Artistic expression is such a vital part of the human experience. I derive my joy from knowing that the energy I’m adding to the world is positive and is making a positive impact on someone else. I exist to help others and through helping others I find joy.
