Today we’d like to introduce you to MeLissa Duran.
Hi MeLissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl, I was very interested in all things glamour. I was completely fascinated with art, painting, styling and color. At about twelve years old my mother started allowing me to hone in on my creative side and experiment with makeup and hair. She took full advantage of my craft allowing me to perfect it by blowing her out on a weekly basis as well as glamming her up for her galas and special events.
Fast forward to adulthood, I was hire and MAC Cosmetics where I began to grow as an makeup artist and realize how much joy it brought me to make people feel beautiful inside and out. MAC allowed me to grow, teach and travel internationally doing makeup in which i will forever be grateful. This ignited me to create my business and started saying yes to opportunities that came my way outside of retail. As soon as I put in my notice, I was immediately offered an job with NBC Sports as a Department Head where i worked for 7 years.
After 20 plus years I”m still working in the industry making people look and feel their best while nurturing life long relationships with my clients and colleagues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been very challenging full of highs and lows throughout my career, however it has allowed me to grow and flourish along in unimaginably ways.
I’ve encountered the loss of family members and dear friends, a health crisis leading to an emergency surgery, and terrible break-up among other things. Through all the obstacles, I never lost sight of my purpose, intention a calling to do what I love.
I’m grateful for every challenge and struggle which has taught me to prioritize myself and my health in order to effectively manage a beauty business for productions, wedding and high profile clients.
Looking back now, I realize all lessons and experiences along the way have been instrumental in my growth as a stylist, a leader and a artist.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m proud that clients trust me to provide hair & makeup services for their most important events, films and productions,
I feel honored driving on around a catching a glimpse of a billboard ad that I was a part of, or seeing my artistry on television and films. It’s truly fulfilling and so humbling at the same time because I’m always reminded of where I started and who I have become.
In a world where social media has changed us as a society, I stand firm in the value of investing in client relationships, client development, and prioritizing their privacy.
Being a hairstylist behind the chair has opened my eyes to human connection and intimate trust.
Changing your and hair and makeup is tied to identity, power and life changes. Shedding old energy and stepping into a new version of yourself is very empowering and I blessed to help people achieve that.

How do you define success?
Deep down in my core what success means to me is pure contentment and total peace.
