Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Brodsky.
Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became an entrepreneur early, starting my first business at the age of 14. I currently work as a Financial Advisor, and help folks plan for their financial futures and map out their investment strategies. But I’m also a sports journalist, actor, author, speaker, and philanthropist. After studying Economics at Yale, and getting my MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, I worked as a television news producer. But around the time I got married, I decided to switch careers to put my business knowledge to work. In recent years, I’ve found the time to pursue more of my interests. I’ve written two books and voiced an audiobook. I’ve returned to media, and on my first day back, covering the Pro Bowl in 2019, I broke a story that got picked up by ESPN, TMZ, and Bleacher Report. That opened the door to cover more sporting events (including the Super Bowl), and to interview celebrities including Patrick Mahomes, Jason Kelce, Carrot Top, Eli Manning, Don Cheadle, Andy Reid, Grant Hill, Paolo Banchero, Caitlin Clark, Jalen Hurts, Michael Strahan, Terry Bradshaw, and more. I also grew up doing a lot of acting, and recently returned to the screen in various movie roles. I’ve served on many non-profit boards of directors over the past quarter century, giving back to the local community by serving others. I’ve spoken to various audiences including numerous companies and trade associations, and students of all ages. I have hosted fundraising events, red carpets, and film festival award ceremonies.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a long journey with lots of twists and turns along the way. I started my career in television, but switched to financial services around the time I was getting married. After raising two great kids, I was able to find some time to get back into media and to pursue some of my other interests that I had put on hold. Along the way, I’ve learned to improve my time management skills to truly the get the most out of every day, both professionally and personally. I’ve learned the value of hard work and dedication, which really opens a lot of doors, and creates opportunities. And helping others with their own personal struggles often leads to karmic rewards.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I enjoy my work as a Financial Advisor, and love helping others achieve their financial goals and invest for their future. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping folks plan for a more comfortable retirement, or planning to send their kids or grandkids to college, or maximizing the amount of wealth that gets transferred from one generation to the next. I also enjoy creating. While getting my MBA at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, I created the sketch comedy television show, “Fuquavision,” which celebrates its 35th anniversary this April. Because of this legacy, I’m known on Duke’s campus as “The Godfather” of Fuquavision. I’ve even appeared on screen with Lea Thompson and Larry Thomas (Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi”)! But my creativity also has an opportunity to shine through as an author of two books, an actor in various movies and projects, and a sports journalist. Being able to participate on “media row” for the past six Super Bowls has been a surreal experience!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
