Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Miller.
Hi Mike, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A Vision for Community and Water Safety
The Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center (RAFC) was born from a vision to create a world-class facility that would serve as both a competitive aquatic hub and a welcoming community fitness center. Our journey began with the Rosen family’s long-standing commitment to Central Florida—rooted in Harris Rosen’s belief that access to quality programs, safe spaces, and educational opportunities can transform lives.
The idea was simple but powerful:
Provide a place where everyone—from elite athletes to first-time swimmers—could belong, grow, and thrive.
Our Early Days
When RAFC first opened its doors, our primary focus was on aquatics. Our pools quickly became home to top swim, dive, water polo, and artistic swimming teams, as well as countless local families seeking swim lessons. We knew from the start that water safety had to be at the heart of our mission. Programs like Learn to Swim, Step Into Swim, and Every Child a Swimmer were built into our DNA, ensuring that children and adults of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities had access to life-saving skills.
At the same time, our fitness spaces and group exercise programs welcomed members from across the community, creating an environment that encouraged health, connection, and personal growth.
Growth and Impact
As word spread, RAFC evolved into much more than an aquatics center—it became a gathering place. We began hosting national and international competitions, drawing athletes from across the globe. These events not only showcased world-class talent but also brought economic and cultural benefits to Central Florida.
Our rental programs expanded, supporting schools, local organizations, and special events. We partnered with community groups and nonprofits to make our facility accessible to underserved populations. Through grants, donations, and sponsorships, we extended scholarships for swim lessons and adaptive programs, ensuring that financial barriers never stood in the way of safety and inclusion.
Where We Are Today
Today, the Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center is a thriving, multi-faceted hub for wellness, competition, and community connection. We proudly host:
Elite Competitions such as the RAFC Senior Qualifier, Summer Solstice, Last Splash, Almost Turkey Invitational, and Winter Classic Invitational.
Inclusive Programs that welcome individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Community Partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and national water safety organizations.
Our revenue comes not just from memberships, but from a strong portfolio of events, rentals, and swim lesson programs—supported by generous donors and grants that help us expand our reach.
Looking Ahead
The story of RAFC is still being written. As we look to the future, our goals are ambitious:
Expand our water safety outreach so every child in our community can swim.
Attract even more world-class competitions to Central Florida.
Continue improving our facility and programs to meet the evolving needs of our members.
Strengthen our role as a leader in adaptive and inclusive aquatics.
From our first day to today, one thing has never changed—our belief that water unites people, changes lives, and builds stronger communities.
The Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center isn’t just a place to swim or work out—it’s a place where dreams are trained for, friendships are made, and lives are saved.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges That Shaped Us
Like many community-based facilities, we’ve faced challenges—maintenance needs, staffing changes, even the unique operational demands of running a complex aquatic environment in Florida’s climate. But each challenge became an opportunity to innovate, improve, and reaffirm our commitment to excellence.
The Rosen Standard—a philosophy of hospitality, quality, and community service—guides every decision we make. Whether it’s maintaining pristine facilities, supporting our staff’s professional growth, or expanding programs, we remain focused on our mission.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’re a community-focused aquatic and fitness center that promotes water safety, health, and wellness for all ages and abilities. We host local, national, and international competitions, offer inclusive fitness programs, and provide life-saving swim lessons and adaptive aquatics for the community.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’ll give you three!
Most people don’t realize that beyond hosting world-class competitions, we also teach thousands of local kids to swim every year—many at no cost—because drowning prevention is a core part of our mission.
It surprises people that on any given day you might see Olympic-level athletes training in one lane and a three-year-old learning to blow bubbles in the next—we’re one of the few places that blends elite competition with true community inclusion.
Our pool deck can host multiple sports at once—swimming, water polo, artistic swimming, and diving—all in the same day, often with teams from across the country or even the world.
