Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Day.
Hi Mindy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for the aesthetic! I attended Parsons graduate design program after living in Chicago and that was my beginning. I have worked in residential design for almost 20 years now, which makes me feel like a dinosaur but it has honestly flown. I love the personal relationship with my clients of trying to realize not just the space I want to create but also their vision of their home. I now have such a wonderful group of long-term and return clients that I really feel connected to that taking new things has to really speak to me to say yes. It’s a great place to be!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, the pandemic and supply chain issues I think have been a big readjustment for all of us. I think everyone not just in this industry has had to learn to manage expectations and let go of trying to control things we just can’t control, not a terrible lesson actually.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love the collaboration piece of residential design with my clients. Each project is unique and I want a beautiful and unexpected result but I try not to make it about just creating “my look”. I want their homes to reflect what they love and who they are with their best foot forward in classic design.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think we have seen huge shifts already with HGTV, online shopping, DIY…I think there a great place for all of those things depending on what someone wants out of their space. I see a swing back to a layered, thoughtful space that involves pattern and color and a move away from the more spare look that has been trendier over the last few years.
