Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Elfand.
Hi Mindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started with our love of coffee and our desire to roast our own beans. We started roasting in our garage in Winter Park and soon started to attend farmers markets. In 2018 we moved to the Space Coast and began roasting, again in our garage. In 2021, during COVID, we purchased a building and started a small cafe and roastery. Within a year we were outgrowing our small shop, so we expanded the cafe and moved the roastery to the back of the building.
It wasn’t too long after our expansion that we stared roasting for other coffee shops and local businesses. We now have over 10 local and out of state coffee shops that serve Black Cat Coffee. In December 2025 we opened our second location.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth. We opened during the COVID pandemic, and it was slow going for the first 6 months. However, the Titusville community is a very supportive group of amazing people and they embraced us fully.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Black Cat Coffee is known for its amazing drinks, friendly baristas and our selection of fresh roasted coffee beans. We are a local favorite in our community and were voted Best of Brevard County in 2024 and 2025 and won Best Local Coffee Shop in 2024.
I am most proud of our employees and how dedicated they are to Black Cat Coffee and to our customers. Our customers are more like friends and family than customers. I am also super proud of our coffee roasters. They are impeccable with their roasting abilities and ensuring our beans meet their high standards.
