Hi Mrs. Ida, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I live in Orlando, FL (Native Floridian). I grew up watching my mother create gourmet dishes in the kitchen for our family dinners, events, etc. I have always had a passion for cooking. However, never became a chef. My journey started out working at Disney’s Starlight Cafe. That’s was the intro into my young adult hospitality years. Soon after, My paths changed and I became a team member for Logan’s Roadhouse Inc. I was employed with Logan’s for over 15 years. It wasn’t until my departure from the company (went out of business). Is when I realized how passionate I became for the Hospitality industry, So on down through the years when the time was right. I set a goal to start a Mobile Food Vendor business. This dream became a reality… Which is now “Melanin FlaVA Inc. The name was created from my family’s culture. It tells a story! Melanin FlaVA Inc. Is a company that was shaped & molded from ground up & is still continuing to be built. It’s growing. Growing into something major! We set up our Food vendor tent in different parts of the city of Orlando. Recreational parks, city events, festivals, Stadium games & More. Our menu is cultivated for anyone who loves great food. From Southern Fried Fish to Triple stacked Burgers to Jumbo Fried Shrimp & The best Philly Steaks that your heart desires! It has been something special. Melanin FlaVA Inc will not stop here…. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, just like any entrepreneur starting a business. The road is bumpy, Ordering the proper supplies, learning to adjust & prepare for busy & slow days. Because you’re figuring things out. It’s New. It’s your baby so you take precautions on everything. So I’d say it hasn’t been a smith without any bumps type of ride in this upscaling industry. However, it’s been consistent & in a forward path movement. With that being said, the journey has been great even with a few bumps.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an entrepreneur & have so many talents. I’ve also worked Corporate America. I’ve done Timeshare sales, I’ve been. FEMA Natural Disaster Contractor. I’m a certified Wedding & Event Planner. My husband and I have also been a salon owner. Although these many talents are exciting & has been such a great experience for me. The show doesn’t stop here! I have big plans for my business. I’m most proud of my accomplishments, growing up being the baby of three girls. Having a Mother & Father who gave you everything you needed in life to be successful. I’m proud to say I’m a great Mother of nine children. A great Wife to my husband for six years. Most importantly for my strive to keep going & not being defeated by anything.
