Daily Inspiration: Meet Nick Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Foster.

Hi Nick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’d like to think my story started in the 3rd grade, at least I think that’s when I realized I was a little different than the other kids. I’d like to read and daydream of grand stories instead of play with friends.

It was also around this time I found my passion for writing; I saw the world a lot differently than most kids at that age. I wasn’t drawn to colors or complex looking things. I was drawn to stories because that’s how I saw the word… I saw a collection of emotions and stories everywhere I went and that shaped me into the person I am today.

I began to write poetry about my experiences and feelings in high school and had a book with over 50 original poems written by me, some even had the opportunity of being published by my school district, I reluctantly turned down this offer because my stories are parts of me I’m not always ready to share.

I developed a love for helping others as I got into college and found inspiration for my own writing through dancing, Fencing, and being a senator for my university. With each activity bringing out a different side of me that I use in my writing. Every day I work towards creating a better story than the last. I cherish every little moment life gives me from the heartbreak and pain of relationships to the joys and triumphs of success every little page of my life makes up my story; and that’s something I want to share with the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life hasn’t been smooth for me everyone has their trials and tribulations that makes them who they are. Some of my biggest struggles I’ve encountered would be trying to fit in during my earlier years of high school. This set me back a couple of years because I wasn’t able to be my most authentic self which affected my grades and led to me having to go to a community college before attending University.

A lack of direction in life also negatively affected me as well. I had to figure everything out on my own and never had a figure to guide me. I’ve learned from my own mistakes which is something I don’t think everyone should have to do. I wasn’t able to find myself until I was 20. I’m still learning how to lean on people and let them help me in life instead of being stubborn and relying on myself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for many things because I would consider myself a very versatile person. I’m always willing to challenge myself & try new things even if they make me uncomfortable.

I’m definitely most known as a writer. My main outlet of expressing myself is through my poetry. I’ve written 70+ poems over the course of my life. Whether it be about despair, heartache, and pain. Or love, bliss, and success. I have a unique way of making others feel powerful emotions through my words.

I also am an avid fencer and have been for two years. It is a very beautiful niche sport and is akin to ballet with a sword. I consider this an art form as well because the weapon you choose or way you fence says a lot about one’s personality. This is also another way I like to share myself with the world because I’m not a very personal person.

Speaking of challenging myself, I started to dance half a year ago and have found another passion. I typically do ballroom these days but when I dance, it feels like I’m painting a vivid scene with my simple motions, and I’m speaking to my partner without even talking. It made me realize that dance should definitely be considered a form of art!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Hmm, the most important person who’s definitely had the biggest impact on me is by far my mother. She practically raised my brothers and I alone, I know that was hard for her. She’s always taught me the importance of being educated in more ways than once and letting me experience life without coddling me. I honestly didn’t have a lot of role models I looked up to besides her, she would keep me grounded into reality if I ever found myself drifting away.

I also want to give credit to anybody who’s currently in life or currently isn’t in my life anymore. For the people I’ve had negative experiences with, grateful for them because I always learned something new, whether it be about the world or myself or how to deal with different people. I think friendships, relationships or any type of connection that ends can be a learning experience. I thank everyone who’s ever taught me a lesson, good or bad.
