Today we’d like to introduce you to N’Quera Kersey.
Hi N’Quera , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my jewelry business in March 2017 after being unexpectedly let go from a call center job. Instead of letting the setback define me, I saw it as a turning point. I sold my Darden stock, took a leap of faith, and used that investment to bring my vision to life. What began as a challenge became the spark that ignited my passion and purpose. I also hand-make every single piece you see.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along the way, I faced my share of challenges learning how to market myself, create engaging content, stay consistent, and always present my brand with professionalism. Patience was key. There were moments of doubt, but I’ve learned that growth takes time and you truly have to trust the process. Every setback became a lesson, and every small win reminded me why I started.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I serve as an Admissions Advisor at Ultimate Medical Academy, where I have the privilege of guiding both traditional and non-traditional students through the enrollment process for our online healthcare programs. My mission is to empower individuals as they take bold steps toward building a meaningful career in the medical field.
What truly sets me apart is my authentic, empathetic nature—a quality that naturally invites others to open up and share their stories. As a mother of two, I bring a deep sense of compassion, patience, and understanding to every conversation. These qualities allow me to connect with students on a personal level and provide the support they need to make life-changing decisions with confidence.
What I’m most proud of is my resilience—the ability to turn challenges into opportunities. After being laid off from a call center job, I took a leap of faith, sold my Darden stock, and started my own jewelry business. That experience, along with my journey as a mother and professional, has taught me the power of determination, adaptability, and staying true to your purpose. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and a fulfilling career has shown me just how strong and capable I am—and that’s a source of pride I carry with me every day.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to always have more faith in yourself and trust your potential, and staying persistent is key. My sister would always use this saying, “Do you want to be good or do you want to be great?” That forever stuck with me because I really ask myself this question before making any decisions in life.
