Daily Inspiration: Meet Patrick (Poet1Deep) Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick (Poet1Deep) Harris.

Patrick (Poet1Deep) Harris

Hi Patrick (Poet1Deep), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been writing poetry in one form or another for most of my life but it wasn’t until 2017 that I actually began to perform it in spoken word style.

This was after several years pursuing a career in music. And a unintentional and unexpected hiatus from being a creative in general. That period of time pivotal for me because it’s when I learned that I was(am) more than one thing as an artist and also that I desperately needed a outlet to express what i felt inside.

So i stsrted writing poems, which had began doing when I was a kid. And in 2017, after having not been on stage for about 7 or 8 years I signed up for a open mic and the rest is history.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My progression in the poetry community has been about as organic experience as one could hope for; especially in comparison to when I was doing music. Honestly the hardest part so far has been me dealing with my own personal issues and still having to show up for myself as myself when it’s time to be a creative. I have issues with anxiety, and depression and I struggle with imposter syndrome and insecurities like many other people I know in the creative community.

That aside, It’s been really smooth. I was welcomed with open arms from the day that I stepped onto the scene. Now I see myself on flyers & advertisements for different events around the city. I’ve been on TV performing in front of thousands. I’ve been interviewed for the newspaper. Performed more times than I can remember at this point and now I’m being interviewed by you-which I’m grateful for. I see how far I’ve come from where I started and and it’s still kinda surreal to me because I had no intentionality attached to me becoming a performer. I just stepped out and let it flow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a spoken word poet based out of Orlando. I specialize in being my authentic self at all times and entertaining people while I do it. I’m known for incitful, thought provoking poetry. I’ve always had a way with words even when I wasn’t using them much. I’m most proud that ipersevered. One day i just decided to put one foot in front of the other, step out on faith and start letting people hear what I been thinking. The thing that sets me apart is that I’m just like your brother, your son, your homeboy from the neighborhood, your uncle, your cousin, your daddy and any other dude you know AND at the same time I’m unlike anybody that you know. I’m me.

What makes you happy?
A consistent workout routine. Slow mornings where I can ease into the day. A good download during a Meditation session. Stillness. The world is in way too much of a rush. Relax, noone gets outta this place alive anyway 🤷🏿‍♂️. Being loved and not having to question it. Finishing a poem and having it be received well when I perform it. Seeing my friends & loved ones be successful. My staffordshire bull terrier and oh yeah… candy corn, definitely candy corn.
