Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Roman
Hi Paula, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was around 16 years old my mom and I got our “colors done” with a representative of Color Me Beautiful. At the time, she wasn’t sure if I was a Summer (cool, light/medium, and soft) or Autumn (warm, medium/deep, and muted) but finally decided on Summer. The palette never really 100% worked for me, so when I learned that there are now ‘flow’ seasons between the original four, I had to find out more. It turns out I’m a Muted palette, which is the neutral flow season between Summer and Autumn! It made so much sense that I had to get certified myself!
Overall, my color journey started years ago as an Art History major in college with lessons on color theory. Later on, as a makeup artist with Christian Dior, I loved using color as a way to help people enhance their appearance. At Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, I worked with clients to help build wardrobes that fit their lifestyle. Now, as a certified Personal Color Analyst of the 10/16-season International Image Institute method, I am able to come full circle in providing women and men with the palettes they need to look their best.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Though the course work to be a color analyst was comprehensive, really training your eye to the nuances of color has taken a while. I’m glad that I had the background in art, makeup, and fashion to accelerate my learning. Once I got my certification, getting the word out to the community took a bit of time. I’m not exactly a pro at social media!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in personal color analysis for women and men.
My clients often come to me feeling frustrated and overwhelmed with their wardrobe and appearance. They want to look and dress better, but they don’t know where to start – so they default to wearing neutrals like black, white, and beige.
In our consultations, using my background in in color, makeup, and fashion, I teach them what colors to wear, and how even small changes to their makeup routine can ensure they look refreshed and vibrant.
Afterward, they tell me they feel more energized, look younger, and get complimented on their newly found glow.
My clients also save time and money because they shop smarter. They know what to ask for at the salon because they know what hair colors complement their skin and eyes. They even know what colors to select at their next manicure!
I get true satisfaction in helping people feel better about themselves and their appearance.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Some of my clients have tried to discover their best colors online, either with filters, apps, or AI, and they spend hours and feel lots of frustration doing it this way. I say cut to the chase! For the cost of a nice night out you can learn what colors will help put your best face forward for the rest of your life. What are you waiting for?
