Today we’d like to introduce you to Pitaya Studio.
Pitaya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Pitaya Studio started with me (Laumir) & my best friend Maria in 2021. We’ve been best friends since we were 9 years old, and both of us studied Social Communication in Venezuela. Starting a business together felt like a natural next step. María, as a graphic designer, and me, as a photographer, combined our skills to create a Content producer agency.
At first, we focused mainly on graphic design, helping brands with their digital image, and offered photography as an extra service. That same year, I bought my camera and a small lighting kit on Amazon. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to kickstart. We took on every opportunity we could find, photo sessions for realtors, consultants, events, and even portraits. Slowly, we built a name for ourselves in the community, and we partner with other small businesses too.
In 2022, while working at Disney Springs, I met Jessica. She’s also from Venezuela, from the same city as me, and is a photographer too! I told her about Pitaya and all the work María and I were doing. Jessica was exploring her own path in photography at the time, and we instantly clicked, sharing ideas and experiences. Over time, it became clear she’d be a perfect fit for our team. When the timing was right, Jessica officially joined us, and That’s when we decided to rebrand Pitaya Studio.
We initially focused on gastronomy photography, running a promo where we offered restaurants a free photo session. That promo was awesome we launched it on Instagram, it helped us build our portfolio, connect with clients, and realize there was a huge need for high-quality food content in Orlando.
But as a team, we’re full of ideas, our vision expanded naturally into what Pitaya is today: a content production company. helping brands especially in the food and beverage industry tell their stories through photography, videography, and design.
Each project is a chance to try something new and push our boundaries as creators.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who we are as a team and what Pitaya Studio has become. Starting a business is never easy and doing it in a new country brought its own set of struggles. At the beginning, we didn’t have much, we had to get creative with limited resources, and we took on every opportunity we could.
One of our biggest challenges was balancing everything. When we started Pitaya Studio, Maria found out that she was going to be a first-time mom, and I was working at Disney Springs, which gave me stability but also meant managing our time carefully to build Pitaya on the side. We also faced the challenge of finding our niche in a competitive market. There are so many talented creatives out there, and standing out took a lot of effort and persistence.
Another struggle was figuring out what direction we wanted to take. We started as a gastronomy photography business, but as our ideas grew and evolved, we realized we wanted Pitaya to be more than that. Expanding into a full content production company was exciting but also overwhelming at times, there’s so much to learn, so many hats to wear, and so much to plan for.
Despite these challenges, it has been an incredibly rewarding path.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in creating high quality visual content for brands, especially in the food and beverage industry. Our services include photography, videos and design, all aimed at helping businesses stand out in the digital space.
What we’re most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. Many of them come to us with just an idea or a vision, and we get to bring that to life. Our First Client was a small Catering service of sushi that starter back in 2022 i remember was our first paying client, our photos still to this day a part of their image, now they have an amazing super cool Food truck with the brand that we help to create and its part of A la cart in SODO Street food & craft beer. Seeing how our work helps their brands grow and shine is the most rewarding part of what we do.
What sets us apart is our personalized approach. Each client is a new challenge. We push ourselves more each time we work with someone new, and this has allowed us to expand our knowledge and step out of our comfort zone. We are constantly innovating to offer something unique. We’re involved in every step of the process, from brainstorming ideas to delivering the final product. every project is tailored to the client’s needs and vision. Plus, we’re always pushing ourselves creatively. we never stop working until our clients get the results that they want.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
On a personal level, the crisis reminded us to focus on what truly matters: Family, the people we work with, our clients, and the community around us. We learned to be more intentional with our time and resources, prioritizing relationships and quality over quantity.
And in a professional way one of the most important lessons, we’ve learned is how crucial it is for brands to have a strong digital presence. During the pandemic, businesses had to adapt quickly, and many moved online to connect with their audiences. This inspired us to focus on creating content that helps brands stand out in the digital space.
