Daily Inspiration: Meet Raelyn Docampo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raelyn Docampo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve loved cameras and capturing moments ever since I can remember. Throughout the years, even with different parts of life getting in the way, I’ve always come back to photography whether it was recreationally or professionally. Now having the opportunity to fully turn my attention to my photography, I have begun to focus on capturing the raw movement of dancers and aerial artists, the breath of yogis and fitness instructors, and the personalities and expressions of other creatives, while working together with them to exhibit their vision as well as my own. Besides photography, I love the aerial arts and teaching them, I love my dog Sullivan, my many fish, and plants, being outdoors, climbing, and watching movies!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up and wanting to be creative in my time was something that was frowned upon as a career. In fact, it was rarely even seen as one. Unfortunately, with those pressures, I’ve stayed away from allowing myself to focus on photography and art. I went in a totally different direction and was in the hospitality business for about 10 years. It is difficult to begin now again having felt as though I have missed so much time, but I fully believe that now is the time that was meant for me to put myself into my work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I enjoy all styles of portraiture in general, I have turned my focus to capturing other creatives specifically. I enjoy working with my clients to create grand scenes, interesting artistic concepts, and exciting little moments. Capturing the raw movement of aerial artists and dancers has proven to be my favorite. As an aerialist myself, I feel it gives me an advantage of understanding their movements, what to capture, and how. I love when clients have their own concepts and ideas for a shoot that we can build on together. Being able to show not only others but the client themselves what amazing and incredible beauty and skill they possess is a privilege for me.

What makes you happy?
Working with others to create in any capacity is what makes me the happiest. I love building, sharing, learning, teaching, and experiencing the excitement of creating something with others, whether it’s photography or anything else!
