Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Clark.
Hi Randi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Clark & Dagger got it’s start in 2020 when we decided to buy one 3D printer to print our cosplay armor pieces in preparation for Star Wars Celebration. We would make fun pieces for ourselves and wear them around and people would ask where we got them. After telling them we made the piece, they asked if we sold them or had a shop. At the time we didn’t, but we saw there was a demand, so we thought, why not? In the past 4 years we have grown from a single 3D printer to 5 and have branched out from cosplay pieces into cake toppers, centerpieces, and pet figures.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but we also believe challenges help us learn and grow. 3D printers have never been plug and play machines, although the newer ones coming out these days are getting there, and they require a lot of troubleshooting and maintenance as well as trial and error. We have had so many prints fail, gotten bad filament, had USPS seemingly drop kick our packages and break things we have shipped. But each issue is a learning lesson for us to move forward with and learn from.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We run Clark & Dagger as a part time side business. David works full-time as an engineer and Randi is a wedding officiant & elopement planner. Clark & Dagger is our creative outlet to be able make fun and beautiful things and it represents the two sides of us: cosplayers & a couple planning a wedding. So while we specialize in custom cake toppers and pet figures to add to your cake as well as making replicas of wedding cakes so they can live forever as a Christmas ornament or a display piece, we also make custom cosplay armor and custom droids.
Two of clients have named us digital bakers and makers of fine miniature castles and we love that! That is probably what we are most known for.
We are so proud of how far we have come in four years. We have upgraded to resin printers to capture more details, we had paint the cake replicas and pet figures, and our design work has gotten better. Our painting and the details that we capture set us apart from other 3D printers. Not every 3D printer also does the complete finishing work and that’s what we actually do best!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Making clients happy is our priority. We won’t take on projects that we can’t complete or know that we won’t be able complete to our quality checks. Every piece we put out we want to be proud of. Nothing makes us happier than when clients tag us in photos of their items and them refer us to others!
Pricing:
- Since most of what we make is custom, we give custom quotes to clients. Our items can range from $50-$250 for wedding items.
