Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Ashley
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My entrepreneurial journey actually started when I was a teenager. I would pick up a few writing gigs on freelance platforms to make extra cash in high school. When it came time to enroll in college, I tried to go the Computer Science route because I was interested in the topic.
I realized that just because I was interested in technology didn’t mean it was what I should be doing for a career. Flash forward to about 2019/2020, and I had started treating my writing side job seriously.
I poured hour after hour into it (while going to school for business) and sparked an entire mindset shift, telling myself, “If this is what I’m passionate about, if this is what I want to base my career around, I’ve got to be all-in all the time.” And so I was.
After graduating college in 2020, I freelanced full-time for a couple of years before taking a role in an agency setting, where I learned SO much about business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and everything that came with it. Today, I’m fusing my freelance and agency experience to fuel my personal brand and current business: Portal Copy Co.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To go from having just an idea to seeing it come to life involves a lot of energy, action, and mindset shifts. One of the biggest struggles I had to overcome (and still try to actively manage) is perfectionism.
I had to really learn how to get out of my head and take small, imperfect actions if I wanted to feel any type of momentum. And honestly, by taking action, clarity and relief revealed itself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am deeply passionate about business and inspiring people to carve their own paths in the world as multi-faceted human beings. I own Portal Copy Co., a copywriting business focused on brand storytelling, but I’m also a fiction writer on Substack (itechoesback.substack.com) and have many passions I can’t wait to explore. I’ve also contributed to a script for a movie, The Art of Love, that’s currently on streaming platforms, and I’m working on my first book that I hope to publish in the next couple of years.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Action brings clarity.
