Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Newton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In July of 2020, I stepped away from a passion of mine, being a Director of a performing arts program. It hit hard but I knew it was the right thing. I then had an opportunity to run a couple of different social media accounts and I fell in love. The what I call “game” of social media was fun for me. I loved creating and seeing the outcome and growth. On my downtime, I was always searching on yelp and google to find things to do near and in Orlando and of course, it was nothing but theme parks and ads of the nearest grocery store popping up! I thought, there has to be another way! So I started really digging into good old google maps. I found places right in my area that I had no clue were there! I knew I had to share. That’s when I really started posting more on TikTok. I then received a lot of feedback from friends and family telling me they love my content and can’t wait to see where I go next so they can check it out. I love to find the hidden gems. I also show a bit of my personal life. We all know social media can get super toxic and we can get caught up in comparison or numbers. I truly believe “Post what you want it’s your page and don’t worry about anyone else”. That phrase took me a long time to go by. For so long, I found myself sitting looking at a picture over and over again wondering what each person would think and how embarrassed I would be if… But this past year has been so life-changing for me and I love the journey I am on. I can’t wait to explore more of what Central Florida and show well… the real me all at the same time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A struggle I have faced has been keeping up! Social media changes what feels like every day so from a business standpoint it’s been hard. You have to constantly stay on the trends and pick the right song on the charts for that day/week. It definitely keeps you on your toes that’s for sure!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator showcasing the hidden gems around Central Florida. I create videos showing the highlights of local restaurants, bars, and family-friendly activities. I am most proud of the personal growth I have had through this journey of social media. I am able to post without feeling awkward and that’s something I never thought would happen too years ago. I think my not so “cookie cutter” personality and posts set me apart. I am sarcastic and like to get straight to the point in my creations. No extra fluff or brain space taken up when you see anything from me!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I wish I would have just dove in forgetting sharks exist. Just fully ready to get creative and have fun. The moment you pretend no one will see it is the moment people will love it and find something incredible about your uniqueness. Everyone is so different and it’s incredible. There really is room for EVERYONE in social media so come on in the water is warm!
