Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarai Mena.
Hi Sarai, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography in the summer of 2019. I bought a camera, more so for blogging than being a photographer. Never in a million years would I have thought to be a photographer. That was until two close friends asked me to take their engagement photos. Because of them, I decided to begin my photography journey. I started by offering free sessions to build my portfolio, messaging radio hosts, and joining Facebook groups. This is what has helped me be where I am at today. I am still building my business and Covid has not and will not stop me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. At first, it was very difficult to get clients and figuring out how to advertise my business, then COVID happened. The first six months of COVID, I had not bookings, then it has started to pick up little by little. These are just bumps on the road that help you get better.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a Bachelors in International Business and a Masters in Management. While in college, I created a hollow sculpture of civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo. The sculpture is currently displayed at the Lansing Women’s Hall of Fame in Michigan. I am bodily injury adjuster for a large insurance company. I have been in the insurance industry for the past 14 years and I have learned to love it. I am most proud of the person that I have become. I am most proud of how far I have come and what I have been able to accomplish. Myself is the only thing that sets me apart from others. I am my own person and I have my own fun personality.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was going into the office with my grandmother. She was a doctor prior to her passing away, and She would take me to the clinic when she had meetings. I would pretend to play doctor and be the boss. When I was little, I wanted to be a doctor, but life had other plans for me.
