Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Guthart
Hi Seth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
How did I start?
– It all started back in 2017, heading home from Miami with a few homies of mine. I had started a clothing brand prior to this but the name and meaning just did not resonate with me, so we started just saying names to call my brand. I have always liked neutral tans or even off white type tones and off-white is of course taken, this lead to one of my friends saying “On Beige” which was pretty funny cause we all laughed. Beige definitely stuck out though, so I said to him, “I actually like just Beige”. From that point forward Beige was created! Soon after I went away to college to follow a business degree in entrepreneurship. I found myself drawing up designs during my classes making it very hard to focus on my studies, this lead me to the grind of creating the meaning for the name, “Beige”. Getting through a year and a half of not doing very well in my classes. Forcing me to make a big decision to leave school and pursue the brand full time. At this point my focus on creating that meaning became much more serious and the focus was created!
How I got to where I am today?
– This brand is a lot more difficult then expected, which definitely lead to a lot of hard ships and obstacles to overcome. Finding the niche itself, creating meaning from thin air and even the design process are just a few crafts I had to spend a lot of time and sleepiness nights mastering. Perseverance, patience and learning to be myself in the process are the keys that lead the brand to where it is today. As well as many relationships that I have made a long this journey that have either lead to more friendships or even business opportunities. Without the great friends and my beautiful girlfriend that never lets me give up, I genuinely don’t think the brand would be where it is. So I owe it all to the people around me for the success of the brand.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
What were some hard ships to overcome?
In 2019 I lost my best friend which was very difficult for me to overcome. He was a big part of the beginning of the brand so it definitely lead to a set back, leading me to a downward spiral that eventually lead back to even more motivation, but now I had put purpose behind creating what him and I strived to be, and that is Different!
Another struggle we had to overcome is finding the niche we would want the brand to be a part of. I had to dig deep for this one and take myself back to when I was around 10 years old, I am currently 26. Growing up I was always very interested in anything motorsports; such as dirt bikes, four wheelers, etc. My family was completely against all of that so a dirt bike was a dream that would stay a dream forever in my head. Until the day I decided to make the brand Beige about dirt bikes! 1 year later I had made that dream a reality, thanks to the brand!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been the type of person to work hard at a task when given the opportunity. I am known for my creativity as well as my positivity and eagerness to succeed at anything I am trying to accomplish. The thing I am most proud of would be my perseverance! All of these qualities are what set me apart from others.
