Today we’d like to introduce you to Spade Wav.
Hi Spade, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, I go by Spade. I am a producer, writer, and artist born in Nassau, Bahamas raised in Daytona Beach, Florida. As an artist, we get inspiration from many avenues. I was just a kid watching MTV/BET being inspired by the talents of Outkast, Pharrell and Ye. Seeing the artist on the screen had me intrigued to learn more and how the process goes for making music. From an early age I chose music as my life mission. Not a day goes by where I am not discussing and/or creating music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy journey but nothing worth it is. My biggest struggles has been balance. Learning to balance work life, school life and still managing my music career. The best way to beat these obstacles is to tone in on what really matters to me and get to the goal. It’s gotten easier through time and trial and error. The journey has just begun for me but I’m prepared and will make i history in the music industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started my musical journey in 3rd grade playing drums. Next I was involved in Band throughout middle and high school improving my music skills. In high school, I got my first MacBook and learned how to produce using GarageBand. Once I got to college at FAMU after my classes I would spend a lot of time creating in my dorm. This is where I begin to take being a producer seriously. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset so alongside my production I dived into clothing and Co-Owned a fashion brand name Final Form Brand with Tim Webb. Fashion is crucial part to my creative process. I believe the sound and the look have to coexist together. While I’m running the clothing brand I’m also learning to improving my sound to where other artists can record on it. In 2020 is when I went full producer mode, looking for artist to get on my beats. At this time my beats are very versatile and I can create it all from exotic trap music to R&B. I met with artist @Squid.Ss and we’ve already put a few mixtapes out under the SQUIDLIFE series and have many more projects on the way. With Squid.ss we make exotic trap, rockstar music and we have an unique sound that stands out. I also enjoy R&B artist @ElijahAudre, we have a few songs out and we create new age melodic music. One of the biggest songs we have currently is “Is He Your Man?” I produce a lot of my own tracks such as “Moxie” and “DoItAgain” In the studio I like to wear many hats, from songwriting, to mixing engineer and production. I believe in being an asset in any way possible to make the best songs. As of currently I have met with many new artists and have a few projects coming out in the summer.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you’re just starting your music career don’t listen to anyone that will bring you down, believe in your vision, treat your music like it’s your baby and really take care of it and make it meaningful to people, learn how to stand out and be you! Have the confidence but also learn from others to improve!
