Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Thomas.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had my daughter at 18 and when I had Bella my life changed . I have worked every drop from retail , went to collage , security, corrections and the list goes on . I started noticing how terrible jobs treat hard working women so one day I went to my security job and I started praying . The first thing that came to mind was learning how to do Locs , which was absurd because I had never went to cosmetology or been interested in doing hair but I knew the idea wasn’t far fetched because typically when I want something I go for it & that very day I quit my security job and went on my quest to finding myself and becoming An entrepreneur. I took one last job at a mall the reason I did that was to pass out my new business cards in the mall to build clientele before actually stepping out on the limb , but doing that was one of the best things I could’ve ever done fast forward 3 years later I’ve opened my own salon and have been the best loctician servicing my community.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It most certainly has not been smooth but definitely worth it . It’s an amazing journey and this last three years have been amazing. I started working in my first salon and the owner was nasty to me and gave me a hard time I believe it’s because she saw the the potential in me , I went to work in a barbershop from there and it was hard working with a room full of men that was challenging seeing as tho most of my clients were woman . The trials of entrepreneurship gets hard & it’s not easy But anything with having is worth working hard for .
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a loctician. An individual who specializes in Locs & natural hair . I’m known for providing top notch Loc Maitenance. I’m most proud that I entered the industry and smashed every goal I set out for myself . What sets me apart from others is my customer service and passion I have when I’m doing what I love to do
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love Td Jakes , Sarah jakes , Steve Harvey , & Eric thomas I listen to them for motivational purposes .
I also enjoy reading some of my favorites are girl boss , 4 agreements , you’re a badass .
My favorite ig pages to get creativity from is nappstar NYC, locsbylokelo, hAirbyrelle , & loclovin. So many more great influences in the industry
