Daily Inspiration: Meet Susan Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Gomez

Hi Susan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From as early as I could remember, I’ve always been drawn to being in front of and behind the camera. I began as a news anchor in school, and over time, I grew interested in the post-production side of things throughout my middle and high school years. I started my own YouTube channel, where I edited my videos, developed concepts, and built a small following. In college, my passion for content creation continued to grow. In July 2023, I took the next step by creating an email, website, and Instagram page to launch my business. Once I purchased a professional-grade camera, I had the confidence to start my journey officially. I reached out to local artists and concert venues, hoping to gain experience as a nightlife photographer. My persistence paid off when I received a direct message allowing me to shoot my first event! That first event was an album release party for Luci (@luci_official) at “The Woods” in Downtown Orlando. Now, I’ve had the privilege of working with talented artists, gaining experience in various fields, and traveling to different states to capture moments through my lens.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although I’ve had opportunities, it has not always been a smooth road. When I first started, I didn’t hear back from many people I reached out to for media coverage. I felt discouraged and questioned my value. Starting out can be tough and challenging, but I’m incredibly grateful for my supportive family, friends, and other creatives who believe in me. I can confidently say that I’m passionate about my work and what I create. I’ve only been actively pursuing this business for a little over a year and know there is still so much to learn and grow. Every step of this journey has brought me closer to my goals, and I’m excited for what the future holds!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m Susan Gomez, the creator behind SusanGomezMedia (SG MEDIA for short). As a photographer, videographer, editor, and digital creator, I specialize in producing high-quality visual content. I recently graduated in 2024 with an AS Degree in Digital Media: Video Production! My work ranges from graduation, events, festivals, artists, concerts, and brands. Since launching my business in 2023, I’ve had the privilege to shoot at The Vanguard in Orlando, Lost Lands Festival, and Suwannee Hulaween! Working with artists like Ian Asher, Flux Pavilion, and MADGRRL has not only helped me grow creatively but also enhanced my ability to capture engaging moments. Versatility and strong attention to detail sets me apart from others.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always interested in art. I didn’t enjoy playing with Barbie dolls; instead, I spent my time painting or drawing. I loved animals and wanted to be a vet when I was younger. It wasn’t until I got my hands on my dad’s old digital camera in 2014 that I considered changing career paths. When I got my first phone, I was taking pictures of everything and anything. I found joy in photography and videography as a hobby. In middle and high school, I joined TV Production classes, where I learned a lot about post-production. Taking those classes taught me how to edit my own YouTube videos! I’ve always been creative and constantly looking for new ways to express myself. This still holds true today, whether it’s through my art, my clothes, or my ever-changing hair color (as you can see in all the photos).
