Daily Inspiration: Meet Terri Bernhardt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Bernhardt.

Hi Terri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a UCF graduate and have lived in the East Orlando area since 1990. I have slowly evolved into a strategic communications and marketing leader with experience in shaping brands, elevating digital presence, and driving community connections. I enjoy leading high impact projects across corporate, nonprofit, government, and startup environments. I also love building campaigns, managing major events, guiding executives, and strengthening audience engagement.
Before stepping into corporate and agency leadership roles, I built my foundation in the world of live sports and large scale events. This includes NCAA football programs, supported media operations for World Cup Soccer and the Centennial Olympic Games, and managed VIP hospitality and game day production for NFL Pro Bowls, Post-Season Bowl Games, Kickoff Classics, and other high profile events. Those experiences taught me how to thrive under pressure, communicate clearly, and deliver exceptional fan experiences.
Community involvement has always been a core part of who I am. I’ve volunteered with Orange County Public Schools PTA, served on the Pop Warner board, and continue to support youth and families through local programs. I served as the 2022-23president and of the Rotary Club of Avalon Park and I remain on the board. I am an active member to both the Florida Citrus Sports and Orlando Sports Foundation’s Media Relations Committees. I’m also an involved with the Ladies of Oviedo and other non-profit organizaitons in the Oviedo area.
On a personal note, I’ve been married for 27 years and have two grown children who continue to be my greatest joy. I’ve lived in the Orlando area for 32 years, and it’s truly home; full of the people, traditions, and opportunities that have shaped both my family and my career.
My marcooms career spans roles at PR agencies, EY, Lockheed Martin, the Orange County Convention Center, multiple startups, and now as Publisher of Oviedo Neighbors Magazine, where I bring together storytelling, relationship building, and community impact. I’d like to think I am known for blending creativity with data, leading teams with clarity, and delivering measurable results across multiple channels.
At my core, I love connecting people for the greater good. Whether that’s inside an organization, across a stadium of 60,000 fans, or through the lcoate stories that bring everyone together.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being honest, my career hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve navigated industry shifts, economic downturns, organizational restructures, and the unpredictable nature of live events in the Center of Hospitality. I’ve stepped into roles where systems didn’t exist, teams needed rebuilding, or brands needed a complete reset. I’ve worked in environments where expectations were high, timelines were tight, and the path forward wasn’t always clear. Each hurdle pushed me to become more adaptable, more resourceful, and more confident in my ability to lead through faith. Those moments shaped my resilience and strengthened my belief that challenges are often the doorway to growth.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Today, as a Media Specialist and Publisher of Oviedo Neighbors Magazine, I bring my past experience together to amplify storytelling, strategy, community engagement, and leadership. My biggest honor is to meet and celebrate the people and businesses that make our Oviedo special.
I started Oviedo Neighbors Magazine because I believe every community deserves a place where history is deep-rooted by hard-working people. After spending the past year knocking on doors and hearing many, many stories told by incredible people, I am learning how many hone-grown businesses, and everyday heroes have quielty shaped Oviedo.
I love Oviedo Neighbors because it’s more than a lifestyle publication. It’s a warm connector. It brings neighbors together, celebrates local wins, highlights the people who make this city special, and strengthens the foundation of small businesses. Every issue is a quniqu chance to shine a light on an inspiring family.
What fuels me the most is the hyper-local impact. When a resident tells me they discovered a new favorite restaurant, or a business shares that our feature helped them grow, or a family feels seen because their story was told. That’s when I know this work matters.
I love this magazine because I love this community. And creating something that brings people closer together is one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something many people don’t know is that when I was 28 years old, I created, produced, and executed the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games for the preliminary soccer matches in Orlando, Florida. I recruited and spearheaded a full committee, worked closely with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), and coordinated with local vendors, city partners, and venue teams to deliver an unforgettable opener.
It was an enormous responsibility for someone my age, but it became one of the most defining and confidence building experiences of my career. Wow factor: I was interviewed by Bob Costas during the matches, a surreal moment that reminded me just how big the stage really was.
