Daily Inspiration: Meet The Edge Effect

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Edge Effect. Them and their team share their story with us below:

The Edge Effect is a five-man, a cappella vocal group based in Orlando, FL. The members of the group, Danny Alan, Troy Dolendo, Sean Gerrity, John Gibson, and Karl Hudson, came together through many years of friendship and a love for vocal music and were all connected through the theme park stages of Central Florida at some point or another over the last 20 years. The journey to forming the group is a long one and bounces from Orlando to Japan, to New York, to Las Vegas, and eventually back to Orlando where the group was formed. But it is all of that varied experience that makes the group what it is today. Since it’s creation in the Summer of 2011, the group has travelled the world as Guest Headliners for Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, and Costa Cruise Lines has been featured performers at The Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, has entertained corporate audiences for clients such as KIA, UPS Stores, Marriott Hotels, ROCHE, Philips, and many more, and performed their stage show on Performing Arts Center stages around the United States.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to today has definitely not been a straight line. When the group formed, we all came from existing, successful groups, and even with that equity, we had to start from scratch and build up a reputation as this new group. Whether in the corporate entertainment space, cruises, theme parks, or PAC’s, our previous relationships from our former groups only got us so far. We had to prove ourselves. Coming up with our own sound, image, and show took time, and we learned a lot about both the audiences we play for and ourselves as a group. When you have five strong-willed individuals who own a business together, it takes time to figure out the best way to come to consensus and systems within the group dynamic that both pleases the majority and also doesn’t bog down momentum. That was probably the biggest obstacle early on: ourselves! But once we settled into our roles as business owners, the creative and performance elements of the job were the fun part, and we began to see the fruits of our labors on stage. We are happy to say that prior to the pandemic, every year had built upon the last, and we were coming off of our best year yet, heading into 2020. Needless to say, 2020 was our biggest struggle, as we are sure it was for most in the entertainment business, and we are looking forward to the Fall and going into 2022.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in a cappella vocal music, that is, music without instruments, just the voice. We do styles that range from pop, jazz, R&B, rock and are known for our high-energy and interactive performances. I think we are most proud of the fact that we are going on our 10th year as a group this year, with no end in sight! We made it through the pandemic and are ready to get back on stage as soon as the theaters will have us, whether on land or sea. I think what sets us apart from others is our versatility and experience. We have five unique all-star singers, a world-class beatboxer, one of the best arrangers in the business, and are all dynamic performers. The amount of stage experience is second to none, and there is something about the relationship we have on stage together that is intangible. People can tell we actually have fun up there and our personalities are able to shine through.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love Orlando and its surrounding areas for many reasons. Although most of us moved here when we were younger to perform at the theme parks, we are all now grown men with families, and there is no better place than here for that! For our business, Orlando gives us an international airport centrally located (We are all spread out in Celebration, Windermere, Dr. Phillips, and Champions Gate), drivable access to 4 major cruise ports, home-field advantage to the number one corporate meetings destination in the country, as well as a huge network of Performing Arts Centers, 55 and older Communities, and 3 Major Theme Parks, all in our back yard. We truly feel it is the best place to live as a full-time, working entertainer. And what we like least about Orlando: I-4 traffic!!
