Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Camara
Hi Tia , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started photography as a hobby in college until I became the Campus photographer for Johnson University Florida in Kissimmee. That opportunity really helped me grow in photography and I got to capture so many of my college memories. From there, my friends began to book me for their senior photos, engagements, and maternity. Quite a few of my clients are my college friends that now have kids and I love that I have the opportunity to grow through life with them. That’s really where my passion started. My favorite shoots are portrait, couples, and maternity. I started dipping my toe into weddings and I am already obsessed. I feel so honored knowing those photos will be cherished for the rest of their lives and shown to their kids and grandkids one day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been an immediate full time business, mostly due to working other jobs. I’ve been doing photography for 6-7 years, mostly as a hobby and just doing shoots when people reach out to me. Only recently have I started to spend more time on it and try to launch it from a hobby into a business. I think it’s easy to feel bad for yourself when you aren’t getting many bookings and think it’s a reflection of your work. I get compliments all the time when I do show off my work, however I only started getting bookings when I put effort into marketing my business. One of the most underrated things in photography is working events. The photographer community has really put this pressure to find your niche and your style and not take any jobs outside of your niche. When you are getting started, doing shoots outside of your niche, like events, are great ways to network and gain experience. Events can definitely be a lot more work, but it has given me so much experience and allowed me to build relationships with people. You never know what that one connection can grow into. Our generation of photographers have put so much into social media to market that they lost the organic way of building connections with potential leads. When people meet you and have a conversation with you, they are much more likely to book you in the future because of that bond you created.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in senior portraits, couples, maternity, and weddings. I love capturing those memories and celebrating those life milestones with my clients. I would describe my style as dreamy, romantic, something out of a fairytale aesthetic. I want to make my clients feel like they just stepped out of a movie.
