Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Love
Hi Tiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Salon Butter was founded out of love and artistry. Our story is smooth and fluid, hence why we named our salon ‘Butter’. I should start by saying that Salon Butter has two owners-myself, Tiana Love and Michael Georgianni is the co owner. Michael and I met working at another local salon-we really got along well and I found him quite interesting by the stories he would tell. We became good friends and then fell in love. We had no idea what was in store for us. Just a few months went by and Michael had contacted a Sales representative for salons that he knew. She told him about our 5 chair space that was going up for sale. Needless to say we jumped on the deal as fast as we could. Before we knew it we were spending a long weekend turning our space into the salon we dreamed about.
We are very passionate people. We believe that whatever we put our energy into it will flourish. Here we are two years later still living our dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can’t help but chuckle at this question. Generally speaking yes, it has been smooth as Butter. If there’s an issue, we try to iron it out pretty quickly and efficiently. At 28 years old, this is my first time owning my own business, I knew there was definitely going to be learning curves. Our struggles have been minor this far, normal really. Issues such as employees not working out, or being a new couple as well and establishing boundaries and responsibilities for the salon. I have noticed where one issue occurs, it usually replaces itself with a solution.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a hairdresser for at least 8 years now. I am probably most well known for my hair coloring techniques and good eye for color match. Even going all the way back to hair school, balayage and formulating hair color has come very easily to me. Over the years I’ve worked with different color lines and have found it’s all just learning a new language, the foundation being understand the color wheel and laws of hair color. A quote from one of my professors in hair school, “you have to know the rules before you can break them.” This quote has stuck with me because I wanted to break the rules. I wanted to create as much as I possibly could all while keeping the main goal of why I got into this industry: to help people feel confident within themselves.
Today my clients know that I want to be a local hometown salon that gives the community confidence by helping them with their image of self love. It’s quite powerful if you think about it. I feel this sets me apart from others because I genuinely care about my clients. I care about their lives and helping them to achieve maintainable hair goals. I love happy clients, they keep our industry going.
How do you think about happiness?
Happy clients make me happy. Being able to change someone’s whole demeanor just by styling their hair for them is magical. When a client goes from frustration to shear joy and confidence is an incredible feeling-like I did that! I helped them!
Hair is a gift and through Covid we found out what a luxury we really are. It’s not just about hair, it’s about the connection we offer to our clients. Hairdressers are more than just changing your look. People open up to us in ways that makes me think we should have psychology degrees as well. Sure we can change your look, but loving yourself is always the goal. If we can show you that on the outside you’re beautiful, just maybe you’ll be able to see how gorgeous you are on the inside. That’s where our skill comes in.
