Today we’d like to introduce you to Tory Visionz.
Hi Tory, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started painting in college my junior year of 2014. There I was introduced to brutal critiques. For a project, we had to come up with a logo. I was getting critiqued so much on unfinished paintings I ended up saying stay tuned to my professors and classmates so they can watch the end goal of the paintings versus what they were seeing. From there, the saying stuck with me. After graduating college, I came across Bob Ross and William Alexander on YouTube and they stuck with me because I could freely create with no mistakes unlike college where I was being heavily critiqued. I like to have creative freedom when I am painting. I ended up moving from Texas to Orlando for a job opportunity in August of 2021. While being here I was introduced to Lake Eola where I now paint nature pieces live on Sunday’s.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had people tell me I should stop doing what I’m doing or pick another route to make money. Lower my prices, lie/hate on me to get me fired from jobs, etc. Even had a couple of women destroy and or throw away my paintings. But success is the best revenge. Stay tuned.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist. For the most part, I am self-taught which what sets me apart from others. I also don’t get discouraged from negative comments. I get motivated by positive and negative energy. I love to create wood cutouts, tattoos, murals, and graphics. I also teach kids and adults how to paint.
What does success mean to you?
Getting paid for doing something you love.
