Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabe Treiyer.
Hi Gabe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I started playing guitar at 11 years old. Always dreamed of playing with many of the guys that were on the posters hanging on my walls. I played in many local bands until the big opportunity came, which was playing with Gene Loves Jezebel during their South American tour in 2010. After that, I got the call for being the music director for (Six-time Grammy award winner) Bobby Kimball from Toto. That was the first time I’ve played in big arenas and for more than 10,000 people. From that moment, I kept networking as I always did, and the gigs started coming my way, and I ended playing, recording, or touring with such names as:
Grammy Award Winner & Academy Award Nominee: Dave Bickler (Survivor), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Steve Rothery (Marillion), Jakko Jakszyk (King Crimson), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Johnny Edwards (Foreigner), Wally Palmar (The Romantics), Alex Ligertwood (Santana), Paul Shortino (Quite Riot / Rough Cutt), Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake / Cher), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow), Monte Pittman (Madonna), Gene Loves Jezebel, Tommy Denander (Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley) and many others. I moved to America (for the 3rd time) to do a new record with one of those artists, and I got the call from Fran Cosmo (the former lead singer from Boston) to play with him, and that became my current main gig. Later on, I had the offer to play and be the music director for “Icons of Classic Rock,” a tour with singers from Santana, Foreigner, Survivor, Quiet Riot, and Boston.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes and no. I had some calls that came out of nowhere and I hadn’t seen it coming, and ended up playing and meeting some of my biggest heroes and traveling to places I’ve never imagined I’ll be someday, that was awesome. The rough part was learning how to deal with some egos and the business side of things, which could be pretty hard. But at the end of the day, when you look back and see where you are now because of that learning process, you can’t help but feel grateful.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a guitar player, songwriter, and producer. I play guitar for many big names in the industry, and on many of those tours and ended up being the musical director for the artist. This means you take care of hiring the musicians or doing some special arrangements and keep everything in a place musically for the artist. Even though I played with many famous names, the gig that put me on the map was with Bobby Kimball from Toto. Not every day do you have the chance to play a six times Grammy award winner and the voice from such legendary songs. I think the thing I’m most proud of is having accomplished many goals and dreams in life through music. I think that as a musician, it’s important that you can set yourself apart from others, not as a competition of course, but mainly to try to be unique in some ways. I always say that probably you can find a billion players much better than me, but I can tell you this, few have the drive I have. Every artist I’ve worked with can testify that I’m all for it. I’m focused 100% on every aspect of the show and always willing to help others, not because I have to, but because this is what I love to do. This is not who I am…This is What I am.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Hmmm, that’s a good question. I think in every career, there’s a certain amount of that, but at the end of the day, your success and failures are the results of your actions. I believe a lot in the fact that if you visualize something in your mind and you wish for it with all your heart (and of course, you work hard for it) you can materialize it and make it come true. Maybe that’s the way God works, and not many realized it yet…
