Exploring Life & Business with Ana Mendez of Ely’s Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Mendez.

Ana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Six years ago being pregnant with my first and only child, I came up with the idea of making the cake and all the sweets for my baby shower and without any knowledge other than a couple of YouTube tutorials, I started baking. Today, I remember my beginnings with great joy and pride, although, at that moment I’ve kept asking myself many times ‘how I had got into this mess and how I was going to get out of it” (LOL).

At the end, everything went well but I have to tell you that the shortbread cookies were too salty (LOL). That experience aroused my curiosity and my interest in my passion, Bakery and Pastry. Then my son was born and thanks God I was able to stay home with him and became a full-time mother, which postponed my plans to become a bake and pastry chef. After two and a half years, my adventure in this beautiful world of sugar formally began when I took my first baking classes. After taking the classes, I confirmed that my passion was baking and decorating cakes. When I’m working, time passes without realizing it, I relax, I feel happy and honestly, how many of us can say that we work on what we love? But I found it, I found a job that I enjoy that I like and it gives me the satisfaction of being able to bring a magical and sweet touch to the homes of my clients. It has been two years of hard work and satisfaction, my best publicity is the recommendations of my clients, worth of mouth, and my greatest satisfaction is to please them and that is what has led me to where I am and I will continue working with dedication to improve and learn more every day to provide the best service for my clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business from scratch is difficult, especially when you do not have the infrastructure and the money to do it, so these two years have been a continuous investment and reinvestment to be able to obtain all the necessary equipment; refrigerators, oven, mixers, molds, cutters, pans and other necessary utensils. Thanks God, I have the support of my husband, who has always helped me by believing in me and in my project.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for people who are starting in this beautiful world of creative and artistic pastry is patience, perseverance, dedication and perseverance. There are many tricks and tips that can only be learned through the experience, so lose your fear and try. God’s timing is perfect and what is for you is for you, but nothing is achieved without work and dedication, building a client portfolio is not done in two days and your best advertising will always be word of mouth, referrals. What your clients can give about you and your work is what will lead you to success or failure, that is why it is very important to be very honest with yourself and accept only the jobs that you are capable of doing, it is better say I CAN’T, and no deliver a job that doesn’t meet your clients’ expectations.
