Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Keita Joy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I initially started my business, I was a middle School Counselor with a Marketing degree from Florida State University, a Master’s in Counseling, and my EdD in Organizational Leadership. I knew that the gifts that God gave me were growing exponentially and were meant to reach people globally. Fear quickly set in and I questioned if I was good enough to start my own business. With sweaty palms and a racing heart, I resigned from my comfortable career to follow the next level of my purpose pathway. It was frightening! I didn’t have many family members that were entrepreneurs and my husband and I did not have the capital to build a start-up. Tough was an understatement. Initially, we struggled to pay our mortgage and I began to feel the weight of guilt as I perceived my family as “struggling” as my fault for dreaming.
What kept me going was my faith and confidence in my abilities and talents. I knew I had the sauce that saves lives and saves corporations, I just needed the systems and strategy to build my future. It was my resolve to adhere to my Success Formula, which is the foundation for my coaching programs and is the anchor of our business model. Ready to know what it is? Take out pen and a pad and write this down because it’s mmm mmm good… Do YOU + Do it Well + Do it Consistently = Success. Do YOU means just that! Understanding your identity opens the gateway to clarity, and clarity leads to purpose, and purpose leads to strategy. I realized I was the most fulfilled and the most paid when I would show up fully in any space using my talents, skills, knowledge, personality, strengths, and belief system. Do it Well- Once you are clear on your personal and professional pathway, it’s time to execute in excellence. As I researched human behavior through qualitative studies, I found that people tend to perform well for other’s approval, which means your best is contingent upon who you meet.
Success Uncensored® believes that you are the CEO of your life and that you have the divine power to change a thought, therefore you can change your life. Excellence rather is a reflection of self-love and self-concept and less about people-pleasing or “performing” for short periods of time for an end result. What if excellence is just WHO YOU ARE? If your best is a lifestyle, then receiving opportunities and increasing your chances of success will become your lifestyle as well. Your mental health is refreshed and revitalized every time you show up doing tasks well as it boosts your confidence and is attached to your purpose rather than a person. Do it Consistently- In my own life, I’ve witnessed heartbreak and devastation. I’ve battled with depression and my own dark moments of doubt and despair and it was resiliency, faith, and a strategic plan to assess potential barriers to entry and plans in place to overcome those obstacles when they arise. That is how you can continue in your career and in your community, consistently producing great work! Listen, these three ingredients are the blueprint for successful living… success uncensored living! I’m sure you noticed that there are a gazillion coaches around town so how does my company continue to land partnerships with big corporations and influencers such as the NFLPA, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), Ted Talk, NBA athletes, Facebook, and more? ENERGY!!! My intentions are pure, my JOY is real and infectious, and my love for life is magnetizing. Corporations to college students immediately feel safe to share their truth and trust that my guidance is research-based and full of resources and accountability.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth, I don’t think anything worth much is smooth but rather gratifying and necessary for a fulfilled life. One must subscribe to being uncomfortable in order to grow and experience a life of success and opportunities. I initially struggled with believing in myself that I was good enough to start my own coaching and consulting business. Later, I struggled with finding enough capital to build my business and battled with the temptation to throw in the towel and abort my calling of coaching and speaking. Faith sustained mew your purpos and a strong WHY kept me grounded in resiliency.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learned the power of PURPOSE and the ability to pivot. Nothing remains the same except change and as a business owner, you must stay in tuned to the needs of your target market and how your purpose can solve their problems and provide real solutions to being about change. It takes creativity, innovation and a willingness to step out of the box to succeed.
