Exploring Life & Business with Johnnita Corley of Scrub Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnnita Corley.

Hi Johnnita, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I absolutely love nursing. I have been a nurse for 26 years. I think nursing is the best profession in the world. I am excited about my new journey as a nurse entrepreneur, retailing nursing uniforms and scrubs to my colleagues, my current company, and area hospitals and nursing homes as well as whomever else has the need for the products I have. Scrub Central’s website is available to anyone from anywhere online, and we also have a physical location here in Jacksonville at 5150 Timuquana Rd #12. One unique approach I would like to offer is before and after-hours fittings. A nurse’s time is limited and our work hours are usually 12 hours a day, not leaving much time to make it to shop during conventional retail hours. So I hope to provide these special appointments for my customers to be able to visit with me and still have their off days for relaxation.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a very interesting road. I struggled with finding vendors who was willing to sell to me. I originally wanted to just start online but would not have had the variety of vendors. So most wanted me to have a brick and mortar in order to obtain an account with them. To this date, my favorite scrub line will not sell to me, which was very disappointing as I have spent so much money on their scrubs myself. Other vendors said that the Jacksonville Market was too saturated, but I feel there is enough business to share.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Scrub Central is a new scrub and medical uniform store started by a nurse for the demand of the nurse. For us by us, as they say… I currently carry several brands of uniforms and accessories, Beverly Hills Uniform, Med Couture, Koi, Maevn, Nurse Mates, and Ava Therese by Zavate. I want to be known for providing comfortable and affordable uniforms to my customers. In researching uniforms, what I noticed was there are not a lot of brands for the curvy and more endowed customers. I plan to fill that gap by designing and making my own brand in the future.

We, at Scrub Central, want to stand above the rest by offering our customers the unique experience of a more personalized uniform shopping event. We hope by catering to the needs of our customers, by being available more convenient hours will serve to be a step above the rest.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
This a minority-owned small business, as I am African American and female. As well as nurse-owned and operated.
